Since feature film is a mixtape of five shorts – in line with other films of the "franchise" V/H/S – they will be treated separately in the rest of the article. But let's note, and it's rare enough to be emphasized, that for a sketch movie, V/H/S/99 offers a very good homogeneity in his accounts, which certainly bloom very good the D system, but do not have to blush one another. Shredding
Implementation : Maggie Levin | Duration 21 minutes.
A teenage rock band named R.A.C.K. is ready to do anything to satisfy their fans, including playing in an old concert hall with rather macabre history.
Halfway between MTV's clipesque aesthetics and a video of the urbex, Shredding offers a nice work of image D.V. . If he abuses a little too much of the dirty quality of his photo to pass his practical effects not always convincing (system D obliges), he is not the first to do it: we put the same reproach to the found footage Frogman. A classic leg setting reserving few surprises, but which introduces the spectator to the overall tone of this V/H/S/99 horse riding between great-guignolesque, pure horror and bursting gore.
Suicide Bid
Implementation : Johannes Roberts | Duration 20 minutes.
Lily makes a "suicide bid": choose only one sorority where to apply, at the risk (diant, what risk!) of being refused and wandering, alone, unhappy, for his first year of university. The girls of this sorority understand well his situation conducive to subjugation, they then prepare him a full-bodied hazing following the rumors of a local legend.
If the conclusion (which we will not reveal here) is not necessarily the most original, Suicide Bid offers fairly relevant claustrophobic horrific visions. Nothing new under the sun – haze, a cemetery, a lot of rain and razing lights – but does not prevent the atmosphere takes on and the segment emits a decisively communicative energy.
Ozzy's Dungeon
Implementation : Flying Lotus | Duration 24 minutes.
A presenter of a cult children's TV show is a real icon. However, when Donna finds herself on her set as a candidate, the girl will quickly disappoint.
The most crazy court with To Hell and Back, Ozzys Dungeon offers an acerbic dive into the false appearances of the world of television. The sweet nonsense of the beginning turns to torture porn the most sordid, in a story of revenge completely twisted (and quite terrifying). A segment that lurks on the side of the nightmarish robberies Terrifiing 2, taking its spectator away (very far) in horror.
The Gawkers
Implementation : Tyler MacIntyre | Duration 20 minutes.
Sandra, a seductive new neighbor, settles in the neighborhood. A group of girls will then embark on a voyeurist quest to try to lurk in his intimacy. Evil took them...
Quite fun in its unfolding, this rereading of myth (we will not say which one not to spoil the reader) will be more fun than scary. The fault, perhaps, to quite terrible special effects. However, the debilito-adolescent interactions of this group of buddies and the inevitable threat which is increasingly sufficient to keep the spectator awake throughout the segment.
To Hell and Back
Implementation : Vanessa & Joseph Winter | Duration 17 minutes.
Invited to film a mysterious occult session, a journalist and his cameraman find themselves propelled into hell. They will then do everything to get out of it before the passage closes forever...
What a pleasure to find the duo behind (genialissim) Deadstream, amusing here to depict (quite brilliantly) the gates of hell. Between horrific latex-rich visions, guts and dubious humour, no doubt, the recipe is the same as in Deadstream. And it works as well! A small jewel of horrific comedy tinted with real nightmare visions, To Hell and Back closes in beauty this V/H/S/99.
