WORK – The road trip of Romeo and Juliet

On her birthday, Clarence Worley meets the splendid Alabama in a mutilated cinema. Immediate lightning strike. After a night of love, Alabama confesses to Clarence that she was actually hired by Clarence's boss as a birthday present. From there will start a crazy adventure.

Populated with stars and vitalized by Tony Scott's striking staging, this romantic comedy Tarantinesque with eccentric characters unfolds scenes with outrageous violence and chiseled dialogues at a frantic pace. Citational and sincere, this love story of the 90s is absolutely cult!

IMAGE – Well undermined in my Cadillac Eldorado

Drawn from a new 4K scan of the original negatives, this beauty restoration comes to us in Ultra HD Blu-ray with a UHD Dolby Vision transfer just stunning.

As clear and detailed as possible, photography is relatively soft and « Smoked » I owe Jeffrey L. Kimball back from his superb d Opposite the Blu-ray published by Metropolitan, this copy does not present film dust or compression artifacts. The 35 mm grain is more palpable with an intact silver natural, the definition input is regular (the close-ups on the sweat beaded faces) and can be seen all the more as the smoke rises (the background), and contrasts like colors are reinforced by HDR/WCG technologies.

A little darker than in HD, the images are perfected by handling deeper blacks and purer whites. The colorimetric palette that is more nuanced (the previous magenta drifts have disappeared) manages to extend the spectrum by saturating the primary (sunset and sunrise) more strongly, subtly improving all other shades (starting with the carnation) and increasing the temperature of the places visited (cold in Detroit and warm in Los Angeles). As for the light sources, far from any revisionism (it also works for the colors), they display with more vitality (the cinema projector, neon signs) while allowing the highest luminances (light of the day) of the details until then invisible.

SON – I Want Your Body

The two soundtracks (DTS-HD MA 5.1 and 2.0) are the original mixes used in cinemas in 1993.

Taking advantage of a better spacing at the front where effects/ambiences detach very efficiently and (small) surround activity absent from the stereo proposal, the multichannel soundtrack nevertheless remains classic (for today) prioritizing the front stage. It does not prevent pyrotechnic effects « slam », that the intoxicating music signed Hans Zimmer sounds good and that bass are regularly solicited.

CONCLUSION – Violent skin!

Detonating wedding between Quentin Tarantino's pen and Tony Scott's cinema, True Romance overflowing with a tenfold passion for Ultra HD Blu-ray!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
