WORK – 911, listen!

Relegated to the emergency call centre, a tortured cop tries to rescue a dangerous interlocutor on a difficult day when the revelations follow.

Faithful Remake of Swedish Film Den skyldige by Gustav Möller, this telephone enclosure that is based on the out-of-field is as effective as ever. The tension is maintained throughout, the intrigue is rich in rebounds and casting (including vocal) as controlled realization. Perhaps not as dreadful as his model (but with some Hollywood know-how in addition), this new iteration does not linger.

IMAGE – Los Angeles burns

This UHD Dolby Vision transfer has excellent details (face features), palpable textures (the offices of the emergency call centre), a sober colorimetric palette which nevertheless leaves a few vibrant shades (see red call alarm), particularly dense contrasts (happily in view of the darkness that covers the second room) and extremely bright lighting (control screens, lamps).

SON – The voice mail drama

Since the outside world exists only through the telephone, the sound design had to be « speaking »... And that's the case, even going so far as to spatialize behind road traffic!

The sound space is thus used in its entirety to dive us, the other spectators, at the exit of the handset alongside Joe Baylor. The voices are clear (it's better to follow the action), the circulation of frank effects, the atmospheres of the street and/or realistic premises, the anxiety score and the heavy bass.

A dreadful efficiency, this soundtrack must be « lived » in VO... Not for the Atmos, even if the air component is heard during the key passages (starting with the overflight of helicopters during the opening), but for Jake Gyllenhaal's one-man show.

CONCLUSION – Is the suspense at the end of the line?

If she does not finally bring anything in relation to the original, except the high-level interpretation of her star actor, this version made in USA of The Guilty remains a dreadful thriller with technical qualities on Netflix. Don't hang up!
