WORK – A guardian who has nothing to do with an angel
Stray, a fan of illegal fight clubs, is recruited for his martial skills by a mafia leader from Miami. He must team up with Cuda, an experienced cash collector. Business goes wrong when Cuda discovers that a girl he took under his wing is threatened by his own employer. He's gonna be ready to do anything to save her even if he has to face hers.
If he does not revolutionize the genre in any way and must endure a narrative all the routine, this dramatic urban polar with elegant staging, with solid casting (a Antonio Banderas While in nuances and gravity) and to the dry violence, takes the time to set up its atmosphere (weighing at will) and build its characters (some clichés but characterized) to better denounce the exploitation of innocent people. Classier and professional, this B series is not without evoking the best of anthology Hollywood Night (without eroticism of course).
IMAGE – Before dark, dusk!
Treated with a few compressive traces (from the colour banding on a handful of planes), this HD transfer to the warm and abundant colorimetry (cf. phosphorusscence under the black light), to the precise pique (a capture 4.5K), to the pleasant depth of field (a boon to visit South Beach, one of the neighborhoods of the « Magic City »), with strong contrasts (nocturnal turns are splendid) and with a seying silver texture (use of an anamorphic lens 35 mm), sublimates the remarkable photograph of the chef op Callan Green.
SON – Everybody 🎶
The soundtrack (proposed in DTS-HD MA 5.1) which unreservedly immerses the Plymouth Barracuda engine's roaring sound, with the music of the Plymouth Barracuda, is loaded with a heavy atmosphere. Giorgio Giampà and environmental environments (which invest generously in surrounds).
The voices are well transcribed on the central channel (even if the dubbing of the VF is a little less harmonious), the muscular sound components have a lot of impact (fire, physical violence with or without weapon), the frontal opening surprises by its width and the dynamics do not lack confidence.
CONCLUSION – Time for redemption?
Ready to sacrifice everything to save a young runaway from the criminal organization that he has served all his life, Cuda uses this last chance to redeem a conscience... More troubled on Blu-ray support (made-to-measure A/V services)!
