After poaching on the lands of Leatherface, the French duo Julien Maury / Alexandre Bustillo adventure in the dark corridors of a haunted house to one detail: this one is under water!
French high concept
Whether we like the films of this duo or not, we must recognize their passion for genre cinema. From their rumbling beginning with hyper effective Inside (2007), these former journalists Mad Movies Unfortunately never transformed the test: Livid and In the eyes of the living are, of course, films which reflect the current French production (we are clearly not in TanguyBut their light scenario combined with a rquiquid budget clearly prevents them from standing out from the horrific film landscape.
And this is not their American incursion (Leatherface) which will change the data : the supposed prequelle of the classic by Tobe Hooper is taken over by the producers, the film is massacred (at the chainsaw?) at the montage and some scenes are turned (in particular the beginning and the end) for a catastrophic result that the Frenchies deny in bloc.
Back in France, they decided to attack a high concept : navigate (that is the word) between the found footage popularized by Blair Witch and the classic house movie haunted in an underwater universe. A big challenge they take to arms.
Flip party in Sologne
Tina and Ben, a young American couple who specializes in videos of the city, decides to go to France to explore a house that has been buried under an artificial lake. Of course, not everything is going to happen as planned...
After an effective first part or mixture of found footage and staging is getting married very well (thank you to the editor Baxter), the film quickly gets into the life of the subject because of its short duration (1h25) to get our divers into this famous « deep house ». A magnificently imagined house, typical of the French bourgeoisie of the 1970s, as one could see in the films of Claude Chabrol (or Brigitte Lahaie according to the hour when you watched the films).

Unfortunately, as soon as the party « fantastic » Get on his way, he loses his beautiful... Starting with the jump scares, which we see coming miles away, and to which the two actors seem to pay little attention. The tension is falling back, while the film should put us in shock, and it's not the arrival of the « ghosts » which look straight out of the Lake of the living dead Jean Rollin who's gonna make things right.
Everything but scary despite a beautiful final image, The Deep House is one more disappointment for our two companions; the promise of a variation of Lovecraft's work being never kept.
