WORK – The hero can be in each

Eight years ago, Batman disappeared in the night: he who was a hero then became a fugitive. Accused of the death of Deputy Attorney Harvey Dent, the Black Knight sacrificed everything in the name of what he and Commissioner Gordon considered to be a noble cause. And their joint actions proved effective for a time as crime was eradicated in Gotham City thanks to Dent's arsenal of repressive laws. But it is a cat – with dark intentions – as cunning as it is a thief that will upset everything. Unless it is the arrival in Gotham of Bane, a masked terrorist, who intends to pull Bruce out of exile that he has imposed. Yet, even if the latter is ready to take back the cape and helmet of the Black Knight, Batman is perhaps more tall to face Bane...

This third and final part of the apocalyptic saga The Dark Knight, is a monumental epic fresco of a rare density that closes the adventures of the bat man in the most memorable way possible.

The treatment is of a darkness and a melancholy to no other like, the tense and spectacular staging of Christopher Nolan is a fascinating visual virtuosity, the characters worn by a royal casting are still as developed (the permanent introspection of Bruce Wayne / Batman) and the surprising new arrivals (especially Blake, Selina Kyle and Bane), the particularly dense intrigue that fits into the news with the economic crisis is rich in reversals and contains anthological situations (the destruction of the stadium), the action scenes are upsetting (the direct calm opening) and Hans Zimmer's score very inspired.

As visually impressive as it is emotionally terrifying, this long-awaited conclusion is a brilliant epic spectacle. Very great cinema!

IMAGE – You think darkness is your ally?

What was true during the Blu-ray test is still today. It is therefore a real visual slam that alternates the planes captured in 35 mm (in format 2.40) and in IMAX 65 mm (in format 1.78) for a stunning result. While the scenes captured in IMAX are visually incredible (the depth of field is incomparable), the cinemascope sequences do not demerit and deliver a sharp and precise definition (even if less sharp and therefore softer than in IMAX), a colorimetric palette of a beautiful accuracy, solid contrasts, deep blacks and a discreet silver grain.

The great news is that with this 4K Ultra HD everything is even more beautiful. Starting with the IMAX plans, once again slightly cropped, which deploy details never seen before. As for the rest, the definition made a leap forward, the details are finer, the colors are richer (especially the turquoise and orange hues, but also the yellow of Gotham's American football team) and warm, the overall brightness is well raised, the light sources are much more intense (the visible lights of the building windows during aerial planes, the headlights of the various vehicles, etc.) and the blacks, handled with more balance, allow the darkest sequences to gain in readability. Undoubtedly, the most accomplished image of the three parts.

SON – What do they say? Get up!

The VF Dolby Digital 5.1 of Blu-ray with its off dynamics (everything is on the same level), the mixing of drafts (the lack of finesse of spatialization) and the sometimes audible breath (!!!), leaves room for a DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix that has nothing more to envy to the VO.

These two soundtracks can also rely on a good frontal opening, the omnipresence of surround effects, clear voices, a precise location of effects, a diffused score with a rare presence and dantesque infra-graves, to fill the ears.

CONCLUSION – Suffering forges character

Born in darkness and shaped by it, the 4K Ultra HD cannot be broken because its will and body are ready to face all crises!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
