WORK – This is not a Mario game!
In a parallel world where dinosaurs have not disappeared, the infamous tyrant Koopa kidnaps Princess Daisy to enslave the human race... But the Super Mario Bros. There!
First (and one of the worst) « adaptation » live action of a video game (which she does not respect in any way), this unforgettable (not for good reasons) adventure under field at the universe cyberpunk kitsch to wish (Blade Runner with mycosis), grotesque situations (as they become funny) and freestyle interpretation (a mythical casting composed of Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo and Dennis Hopper), has imposed over the years as THE cult nanar of the 90s. In his own way, this crazy anomaly will have marked the minds!
IMAGE – Welcome to Dinohattan!
Captured in 35 mm film and restored in 2K, the image which is generally stable (at a few planes) and well cleaned (a master without stain) has a homogeneous silver texture (in the shade included), very satisfactory details (cf. the sharpness of the faces, costumes and decorations), a perfectly rendered colorimetric palette (in particular the red and green of the emblematic outfits of Mario and Luigi) even though it is a tristounette of by nature, and solid contrasts with the fined black and white. To top it all, compression is controlled.
SON – Trust the fungus!
Whether you opt for VO or VF (with excellent dubbing), this 2.0 soundtrack surrounds with great clarity will not lack fishing and will use a good distribution of the atmospheres (the rumors of crowds, road traffic), the effects (energy of de-evolution weapons) and the playful score of theAlan Silvestri.
CONCLUSION – Dance with the Goombas!
If you know what you're embarking on, no doubt this Blu-ray edition (three discs) of this very free « adaptation » The famous video game will fill you! The A/V services have level up, the digipack box has a mouth and the supplements are worth a visit (especially the documentary This Has No Video Game, unpublished in France until then, which returns on a shooting not like the others).
