WORK – Clone retreat
Several months have passed since the events on Kamino. Continuing his journey into the Empire after the fall of the Republic, the Bad Batch squad undertook a series of commando missions that took him to places as unknown as they were dangerous, crossing on the way friends and enemies with new or familiar faces.
Despite a chilly start to the season due to more or less inspired girly episodes, the series spends the second while leaving aside its heroes (except CrosshairThe members of the squad hardly evolve) to become more interested in conspiracies and other ramifications on the galactic scale of the Empire. For in this galaxy that has no scruples to « discard » its clones (such as Vietnam War veterans), real social themes are posed by Dave Filoni (the alpha and the omega of the saga for many years) while the richness of the universe Star Wars continues to develop at a good distance from his mythological figures (in the image of the series Andor). This second season thus gained in scope and depth until its tragic conclusion, a double episode full of suspense ending on an unsustainable cliffhanger. Really season three!
IMAGE – Dark corners
Presented in UHD Dolby Vision from a DI 4K, the image with the falsely silvery patina (a light grain of a beautiful finesse) does not lack ultra-detailed textures (details in the environments and models of the characters) nor richly saturated colours (the Hunter's red stripe, Cid's green skin) nor photo-realistic light games (blasters' shots, the laser sword of Wookie Jedi, the reactors of the Havoc Marauder, artificial lighting of houses on Pabu). Apart from the presence of a bit of aliasing and small diet drops on the side of compression (a handful of colour banding), it's superb!
SON – It's not their war.
If the enormous sound design of the catalogue Star Wars is of the part, the same is for sobriety summarily any disneyan of dynamics and bass. Fortunately, this immersive soundtrack (there is no shortage of atmospheres) can count on the wide opening of its front stage, the engagement of its rear channels, the clarity of its dialogues (preferably listening in VO for the vocal performance of Dee Bradley Baker, the voice behind all clones !), the symphony of the score signed Kevin Kiner and control of its directionality (overflight of aerial vehicles, the presence of disturbing creatures) to ensure true acoustic comfort.
CONCLUSION – Ascension of the Empire
While the small victories of the Force Clone 99 are only a drop of water in an ocean of atrocities, the Empire's abuses continue to be spread in the open in an increasingly mature galaxy... Of which the very good A/V services delivered by Disney+ do not conceal any of its different aspects!
