Just out of Starfleet Academy, young James T. Kirk found himself aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, the most sophisticated spaceship ever built where it meets those who will become its crew and friends. Together, they explore strange new worlds in search of new life and new civilizations.
WORK – Both for novices and "Trekkies", this 11th opus that revisits the universe of the original series by respecting and modernizing the values of the license, is a very great SF entertainment that gives a new breath to the saga.
IMAGE – A very high quality UHD transfer to refined silver grain, sharp definition, remarkable details/textures (more intimate than in HD), fabulous colorimetry, controlled contrasts and abyssal blacks. The colours are more punchy (the uniforms), bright (the white walls of the Enterprise) and nuanced (the skin hues), the light sources (the lens flare) are much more intense and the blacks are even denser.
SOUND – Dynamic, immersive and incredibly well spatialized tracks, even though it is the explosive mixing Atmos (exclusive to the VO) that is the most demonstrative with more prognosis of rear atmospheres (the bar) and the presence of high effects (the take-off of a shuttle).
WORK – A space science fiction film with fluid staging and bursting SFXs, which chain many pieces of bravery through a captivating scenario full of twists. Undoubted success!
IMAGE – An attractive silver grain, a devastating definition, a diabolical piqué (improved UHD details), a dizzying depth (the IMAX-size planes), explosive colours with a more subtle palette (the red vegetation in the introduction), fabulous contrasts with deeper blacks, and dazzling lights where the reflections are brighter (the funnel of the Enterprise) and more burning flames. It's sensational!
SOUND – While the VF must be content with a lossy soundtrack (which is much less muscular and moving than its 3D consoeur), the dynamic and enveloping mixing of the VO Atmos delivers ultra-precise spatialization, sustained height effects, a ubiquitous rear scene, energetic score and formidable bass. It's amazing!
WORK – If it does not push the boundaries of the calibrated blockbuster, this humanistic space adventure that reconnects with the spirit of exploration of the original series, is a pleasant galactic entertainment to spectacular action scenes.
IMAGE – A remarkable definition, much finer textures than in HD, beautiful colors and often sharp contrasts (also darker than in CSD). The blacks, however, lack depth and the grain, even though charming, sometimes turns to tingling. Thanks to the HDR10 the colors are more energetic (the crew shirts and lasers), the skin tints more natural and the glittering reflections (the vessel sling).
SOUND – A homogeneous and immersive Atmos mix with detailed atmospheres (the streets of Yorktown), whirling pyrotechnic effects, the skilful aerial scene (the crash of the Enterprise), the enveloping score and solid bass. Even though quite honorable in its genre, the VF p
« Space, border of the infinite to which the Enterprise spacecraft travels. His mission: to explore strange new worlds, to discover new lives, other civilizations and, in defiance of danger, to move towards the unknown. »
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
