WORK – We're gonna play a game...
Working in the shadow of his father, a local police legend, Lieutenant Ezekiel « Zeke » Banks and his new partner are investigating a series of macabre murders, the modus operandi of which is strangely reminiscent of a serial killer in the city. Being trapped without knowing it, Zeke finds himself in the middle of a terrifying ploy whose killer pulls strings.
A little away from the torture porn that stuck to his skin to venture on the side of the thriller police to theSeven, the franchiseSawtries to renew (or at least rejuvenate) by letting the investigation take precedence over the murders (less present even if the traps are still as gorse and inventive).
Far from being the worst of the saga (we are still in the 9th opus), especially as he embarks a cast of stars (a first even though Chris Rock's interpretation leaves something to be desired),SpiralHowever, cannot prevent the (heavy) specification of the series (such as visual tics and final revelation) from being respected. The revival so much praised by promo is not yet there... But in view of the last open minutes (which propose, among other things, a new interpretation of Jigsaw's philosophy), it could happen soon!
Remains in the state a good horrific entertainment which regains the peaty atmosphere of the first three shutters (the aspect « telefilm » of the last iterations no longer), has the good idea to focus on his characters (it will be important if there is later) and manages to surprise by attacking frontally police corruption. It's not that bad already, is it?
IMAGE – Get off the masks!
Significantly enhancing the visual experience of the excellent Blu-ray, this UHD HDR10 transfer is definitely a killing!
Captured in 6K and taken from a DI 4K, the stylized images of the work are perfectly defined. They offer an impossible level of detail to reach in 1080p, an increased resolution in the shadows (it is more than notable in the metro and the police station archives), brighter colours clearly more nuanced (the depth of the blues) that add character to the flashbacks (by accentuating the ochre hues) and other more impressive light sources (starting with the intensity of the neon).
SON –So do, do, do, the little puppets
Immersive and anxious, the soundtrack Dolby Atmos is really not there to laugh!
Using remarkable spatialization (cf. the carnival sequence), she does not hesitate for a second to activate all the channels allocated to her to make us « bad ». The dialogues are made clear, the dynamics are aggressive as soon as « game » first, the surrounding canals never release the pressure (of the atmospheric atmospheres of this, of the Malaysian effects from there), the enormous aerial stratum plays with the traps (the claustrophobic resonances of the tunnel, the « Wind » of glass debris), the partition signed Charlie Clouser insidiously spreads through the listening room and the basses are striking as desired.
Less intimidating in all areas, however, the VF(Q) suffers from too many voices.
CONCLUSION – Too much torture?
By taking advantage of its considerable technical merits (a flawless one), the present 4K Ultra HD sets itself as a choice of choice for the followers of the puzzle killer... Even if its « heir » (Finally) is more directly related to him! Ready to continue the game?

The first is an excellent horrific thriller. Then it gets ridiculously gore and funny. On the other hand, this one leaves me dubitative I have the impression that he does not fit into either of these two categories! I'll take a look at it occasionally. 🙂
