WORK – Snake Sleep
Snake Eyes, a courageous and lonely man, is welcomed into the very ancient Japanese Arashikage clan, after saving the life of their heir. The clan made him a great warrior, while offering him what he had long dreamed of: a home. But some secrets of his past resurface and Snake Eyes, if he wants to keep the trust of those who are now his loved ones, will have to test his honour and loyalty to the clan.
Action movie lambda without any identity, this spin-off ofG.I. Joeis an origin story cliché where the script, which painfully tries to attach itself to the saga mother, is as stupid as the reactions of characters, lifeless puppets written at the trowel, are illogical. The actors have nothing to play, the scenery is never exploited and worse, the rare scenes of the batons are so overcut that they become illegible. Monotonous and terribly superficial, this serial blockbuster for a young audience is as formatted as it is lazy. Give us back Stephen Sommers!
IMAGE – Bigleuse the snake?
Improving the fantastic images of Blu-ray, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer to clinical clarity and stunning colors is a delight for the eyes!.. Despite the furtive presence of colour banding in the snake pit and some overexposures in the high luminances.
Cleanly brighter and a little better defined, they display details a sharper hair (faces and decors), a more natural colorimetric palette (carnation) and lush (green foliage and blue sky), finer contrasts (see the size of blacks and white balance) and otherwise more flashing light sources (the inflamed powers of the Sun's Joy, lanterns and neons during night sequences).
SON – Here's a rattlesnake who hasn't forgotten her caspabelle!
With a sacred punch (the dynamic range is excellent), this Dolby Atmos soundtrack to the optimal spatialization and clarity of every moment brings a lot of weight to the action (and God knows she needs it) and life to this disembodied world.
The surrounds do not have the time to unemployed (the passage on the busy highway with the continuous scrolling of vehicles and streetlights), the warrior effects (the burst of blades and the shots) like the environmental atmospheres are engaged throughout, the aerial extension is not there to make figures (rain, thunder, crowd in heights, wind, helicopters, etc.), the score is carefully integrated, the bass are fully expressive (the confrontations, the test in front of the anacondas) and the dialogues, which dominate the front scene, are perfectly distinct.
The more grounded and less inward, the VF remains enveloping and physical enough to make listening entertaining.
CONCLUSION – Venimous viper?
No more incarnated than the plastic toys she inspired, this piece that was both frustrating and mediocre, intended to be a new cinematic start for the Hasbro franchiseG.I. Joe, animates our favorite action figures in 4K Ultra HD !
