After witnessing a patient's suicide, Dr. Rose Cotter begins to experience scary events that she cannot explain. While an overwhelming terror is taking hold of her life, Rose has to face her past in order to survive and escape her terrifying new reality.
As the smile " becomes demonic, this psychological horror without humor or irony reveals nightmare and/or projected visions gore by remaining firmly orientated to the anxious troubles of the traquee (or disturbed?) Sie Bacon. Bad and creepy despite easy jumpscares and predictable drawer sequences, this metaphor for the trauma that I'm due to the promising Parker Finn creates a tenacious malaise with a very good narrative minimalism. Behind the front smile, the evil (being) eats!
It wasn't so much the blood. It was her face, the way she looked. "
Rose
Done from a 6.5K digital capture (ARRI Alexa 65 mm) finalized in 4K, this solid UHD Dolby Vision transfer (an average bitrate of 76.9 Mbps) takes place in autumn photography with the dark beauty of the head op Charlie Sarroff.
The Malaysian patina (a slight silver emulsion) added in post-prod is better resolved than in HD, details show increased finesse (facial characteristics, textile fibres, interior decorations) and the excellent definition shows no signs of weakening.
The colorimetric palette with warm calibration (with the orange typical of the rear-season) and with beautifully faded natural hues (cf. pastel pink and azurin blue on the walls and curtains of the Emergencies) preserves the coldness of its carnation while invigorating its primary (blue sky, red blood and yellow uniform of the prisoner).
The increased value of contrasts allows blacks to gain firmness (the « ghost » Laura is better off in the shadow) and whites get to purity (the blouses of the hospital service). The light sources are also more ostensible (the ceiling lights, the gyrophars). It should be noted that the evolutionary management of HDR (light gradually losing in the dark) follows the mental deterioration of heroin. MaxFALL was measured at 226 cd/m2 and MaxCLL at 599 nits.
Based on the experimental score (which mixes skillfully with the effects) of Cristobal Tapia de Veer and the insidious atmospheres (more and more direct over the minutes) of its sound design, the VO Dolby Atmos (24-bit, 3637 kbps) instills a truly distressing atmosphere interspersed with memorable auditory bursts (stimulated by an evil dynamic).
The spatialisation which ensures its « presence » At the back (phone rings, agitation in the corridors of the public hospital, gnashing in the old house of Rose) and in the heights (noise in the head) is very effective, the dialogues are clear and balanced, the music is vigorously cramped to all the channels and the LFE channel, which has enough to do, balances the low frequencies coming from the deepest of Hell.
Less accurate and voluminous, the VF Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps) operates well the five enclosures made available despite more contained immersion. Rather suitable, dubbing properly integrates into the original mixing.
Even more oppressive and unhealthy on 4K Ultra HD support (the A/V performances show the teeth), this horrific thriller around mental illnesses masks its resistant depression behind its most beautiful smile. Be careful! Deep trauma in progress...
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
