WORK – Space's worm brains
After a well-watered evening, a group of friends is awakened by strange lights in the sky. They are horrifyingly discovering gigantic alien vessels that seem to aspire to men by thousands...
If SFXs are as successful as they are impressive (ColinandGreg Strauseknow how to do it in the field), the biomechanical design of amazing invaders and the numerous action scenes (especially during the last act), this SF work in camera is nothing more than a technical demo (it has a mouth) where emotional involvement remained outside the building; the fault of a simplistic scenario that drowns in the worst stereotypes of the genre, of uninteresting characters who lack development and of actors most often at the pick. In short, a small series B without pretension including the final « What the fuck » Nevertheless, it will have opened the way to two more crazy and generous suites (Beyond SkylineandSkylines).
IMAGE – Lower the blinds!
Resulting from a 4K remaster of the original digital medium 2K, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer improves the definition, colors and high luminance of the photograph (very flat) without devading certain limitations of the source.
The details are finer than in HD (the veins, the texture of the invaders, the exterior decorations) even if the sharpness persists in its softness, the contrasts are more balanced than in the past even though the blacks continue to tend towards the dark grey, the light sources remain limited despite the increased shine of the blue light and the slight digital noise persists in the shadows (in contrast to the remanence). On the other hand, there is nothing to blame for the colorimetric palette whose revitalised primary (especially on clothing and vegetation) and otherwise healthier carnation attest to the use of the Rec 2020 gamut.
SON – Vaya con dios son of a bitch
A dreadful acoustic efficiency, this multichannel soundtrack will test your HC installation with its madness dynamics, its immersion at all times (the atmospheres are active), its generously unleashed effects (air fighting) and its devastating bass (ship crashes, explosions). The partition ofMatthew MargesonThere is no lack of emphasis and dialogues remain perfectly audible despite the chaos in the environment.
In view of the events (an alien invasion over the main cities of the Earth), the absence of a 3D mix is regrettable even if the activation of a virtualization DSP allows for a very convincing half-sphere sound environment.
CONCLUSION – The harvest is us!
Unjustly descended by the critic upon his release, this modest science fiction entertainment is now better prepared (a 4K Ultra HD with solid A/V performances) to endure the relentless yoke of the alien threat!
