WORK – Once upon a time there was anti-Disney

His favorite marsh being threatened, Shrek, an ogre all that is crado, embarks on a quest to regain his habitat, aided by a joker and unlucky donkey. On the way, this unlikely duo must rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona and thwart Lord Farquaad's evil plans...

If she gradually loses her initial impertinence, this animation comedy revisiting some classic Disney has the good taste of advocating difference and cultivating the second degree during irresistible adventures. However, the neat packaging 20 years ago is today from a ugliness without name!

IMAGE – My beloved marsh

While the colours have never been so bright (the green skin of Shrek, the blue of the sky, the red-orange lava of the dragon's den), that the contrasts benefit from a profound improvement (cf. the brightness of the whites and the precision of the blacks) and that the light sources find new reflections (the stars, the moon, the flames), the technical limitations of the animation of the period lend themselves rather poorly to the Ultra High Definition...

Digital source (not Full HD by the way) upscaled and coarse textures oblige, the contribution of definition is derisory even if it happens to the sharpness to be reinforced in places (clothes and furs). But the most unfortunate is the constant presence or almost de-aliasing on armors, hairs, decorations and j'en pass!

SON – Better it's outside than inside

Robust and well spatialised, the VO DTS:X offers us a warm acoustic show that shows itself enveloping (the atmospheric effects in the castle of Farquaad) and striking (the action scenes and the diffusion of the score really lack of recovery). More subtle than demonstrative (if it is during the fall of a chandelier during the rescue of Princess Fiona), the verticality of the sound remains an appreciable addition.

While it is not uncommon for the gags and interpretation of Alain Chabat to surpass the original version, the VF lacks spatial finesse and especially body (the dynamics and bass were not released from the dungeon).

CONCLUSION – In green and against all

Bard with warts he can't get rid of, this 4K Ultra HD that still makes the most of Shrek First name has more place in a swamp than in a palace!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
