WORK – Chicken meat For high school students
In an abandoned mansion, a group of young people find a book that tells terrifying stories. But this finding is not without consequence: reading the book allows its terrible creatures to come to life... The small town will then face a particularly horrific wave of deaths, and everyone will have to face their worst fears to save the inhabitants and stop this carnage.
Despite a predictable path (which takes the form of an anthology) and friendly horrific events, Scary Stories remains a very honest movie d'afraid to the neat classic bill, the successful chimeral creatures, the engaging morbid atmosphere and friendly characters like everything. A good little surprise adapted from Alvin Schwartz's books.
IMAGE – To be told in the dark
While the improvement to the finest details is not very visible (a little in close-ups and again), this 4K Ultra HD marks clear differences in color saturation and contrast management.
Dive into the darkness for a large part of the time, the images of this UHD Dolby Vision transfer benefit from much more threatening shadows and increased readability during night sequences where light is minimal. More natural, too, they take advantage of more vibrant light sources (light of the day, urban lighting, hospital ceiling lights) and a richer colorimetric palette that has the good taste to strengthen the primary (see the scene of the red room).
SON – Scar me!
Quiet and laid down most of the time until a new story takes life and activates the watts, this mixing progresses intelligently according to the tension created by the narrative.
The surround scene is used efficiently (the rustling of the leaves, the thunderstorm, Sarah's cry), the atmospheres as well as the effects are well placed in the space (the presence of the monsters), the dynamics speed up several notches as soon as the horror looms, the voices are delivered with great clarity, the music regularly invades the acoustic space and the bass are allies of weight.
CONCLUSION – From « beautiful » Stories to sleep...
Frightening feeling with its array of monsters coming out of several horrific myths, this haunted house trip is all for Halloween !.. But preferably in Ultra HD Blu-ray to better detect the entity that is cluttering in shadow.
