WORK - The Dix-Huit Palms of the Subjugated Dragon
Kingdom of China, 10th century. Qiao Feng of the Song clan is a respected knight hero, master of martial arts. Wrongly accused of killing a leader of his own clan, Qiao Feng is banned. To prove his innocence, he embarks on a long journey.
A striking visual generosity, this luxurious wu xia pian fantasy adapted from a Chinese literary classic ofJin Yong (Half-gods and semi-demons) where martial arts (crazy virevoltant battles) couded political conspiracies (which multiply sub-intrigues and sub-intrigues within a rather confused narrative for us Western), imposed as an exalting spectacle (as epic as well as tragic) to the splintered novelesque in which the athletics and charismaticDonnie Yenis 200%.

With greater sharpness (the contribution jumps to the eyes) and superbly defined, it benefits from a fully sharp bite (textural fineness of the costumes, close-ups on the faces, the precision of the wide frames) that can sometimes betray the presence of the CGIs and moderate use of a reinforcement of the contours (the treatment of which is necessarily less visible on the Blu-ray).
The somewhat attenuated colorimetric palette which is loving in relevant earthy hues sees its primarys exalted (a deeper saturation) and reinforced contrasts, which cut inside each plane with greater accuracy, benefit from more detailed shades and better readability of the high luminances (slice more intense than in CSD).
Let's kill the traitor!
If the absence of the Atmos mix (although available on the Blu-ray US) is regrettable given the many noises that lend themselves to verticality (arrows, hero who flaunts in the air, rain, projected furniture), the Cantonese track DTS-HD MA 5.1 still remains very expansive (I can only advise you too much to activate a DSP virtualization).
The dynamics are vigorous, the effects burst out on all sides during the sequences of action (cf. the piece of bravery in a temple), the engagement around is never denied (the environmental atmospheres, the opponents of Qiao Feng), the music to Sergio Leone (in particularThe Good, the Brute and the Trund) is spreading generously, the dialogues are clear and the LFE channel, ready to discover it at any time, delivers bass particularly deep to the perfect punch (the blows carried are physically painful).
CONCLUSION - Where is its place?
A tourbillon of bastons (more spectacular than each other) and great feelings for a wuxia epic in the purest tradition of Chinese cinema, whose quest for truth revenge of his chivalrous hero, agile as not two, gains in generosity on 4K Ultra HD support (a/V leaping performances).
