WORK – Evil has evolved!
Years after a worldwide apocalypse caused by a deadly virus, Jade Wesker swears to bring down those responsible while trying to escape the infected.
Canon with the iconic videoludic saga of Capcom and taking place on a double temporality (in 2022 and 2036) in the world of games, this production Netflix is a bicephalic B series capable of both best and worst.
The passages involving zombies and/or other monstrosities of the « nature » are effective (the infected dog in the premises of Umbrella, the lickers in the tunnel under the Channel, the phantom of the sect, etc.) but are rare, the scenario « original » which is filled with mysteries manages to keep us in breath between the cliffhangers (despite an incalculable number of facilities) before turning to anything in its last straight line (the puppet Evelyn Marcus), the characters are far from uninteresting if it is omitted that it is only clichés on legs, and while most of the special effects come out well a part of the casting has escaped from an AB production (the young before the apocalypse).
Buffing all the canteens of the franchise (yes, yes, there are « tributes » to films with Milla Jovovich), this first mediocre season is gradually lost in his deviant ideas... Thinking that the spot Z will always be part of the DNA of Resident Evil !
IMAGE – At the heart of horror
If compression happens to yield under pressure (from the tingling of this one), this UHD Dolby Vision transfer infested with a false silver texture (volunteerly more aggressive in the post-apo period) will appear, in darkness as in light (whether natural or not), with comfortable clarity.
The sharpness is maintained throughout, the details that are particularly piqued are never lost in the darkest corners of the frame, the clinical colorimetric palette (now) or « bleeding » It is perfectly saturated, the contrasts push its two limits (blacks are deep and bright whites) without needing to defend it, and the light sources are regularly intense (cf. the lights of the lab).
SON – Deadly Silence
Little attracted by subtlety, this Atmos soundtrack, which no longer filled the acoustic space with carefully spatialized effects and/or ambiances (the creatures move from everywhere) without drowning its dialogues (audible in all circumstances), enjoy engaging basses and a score with solid wrapping capacity. As for the height scene, it activates as soon as it can (helicopters, lickers suspended from the ceiling, drones, and the pass).
High precision despite limited encoding to Dolby Digital Moreover, the very good VF 5.1 cannot nevertheless fight against the weight and dynamics of its 3D consœur.
CONCLUSION – Long-awaited antidote?
Once again rising from its ashes, the horrific saga Resident Evil Live action tries its luck in serial format. Unfortunately, even if promising at first, it's not with this « monstrosity » the redemption will come!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

Resident Evil has always been a nanar side but it really has become family life since the fifth episode. Apparently we're in that vein perched here. I wonder what the franchise would give in good hands...
