WORK – Back to business for Donnie Yen

Cheung Tit-shan is a virtuous policeman who is admired by the police for resolving many cases. One day, his past comes back to haunt him when his operation is attacked by a mysterious group of criminals led by Yau Kong-ngo, his former protégé sent to prison three years ago...

Borrowing so much to Heat that in the cinema of John Woo, this « old school » which is a generous maelström of violence and emotions where urban shootings, brutal grabbings and other haletante races and pursuits unite with a dramatic narrative. The action scenes are enlivened, the staging is as legible as it is nervous, the topics discussed make sense (fraternity, duty, police corruption, honor, redemption) and casting, physically invested, eat the screen. A pure and hard polar that is not without reminiscent of the golden age of the movie HK of the 80-90s!

IMAGE – Hong Kong the Bubbling

Captured in 5K before being finalized in 2K during the design of the intermediate master, the image delivered in 4K HDR slams the retina to a few traces of compression (a little colour banding).

Even clearer than in HD (cf. the precision of the background), it is illustrated by a sharp sting with stunning finesse (injuries, costumes, decorations), a colorimetric palette with increased ardour (the primary ones are ultra-demonstrative), contrasts now enhanced (for densified blacks and purified whites) and bright sources better trimmed (explosions and the view behind the windows cover details) whose brightness has been accentuated (starting with the lighting of the alleys and the police station).

SOUND – Sitting on a barrel of powder

Full of enthusiasm, this soundtrack proposed in Dolby Atmos really does not lack energy. Enveloping as possible (it sounds from everywhere during the gunfights) and does not hurt the frenzy of its dynamics (the shots), it appeals to the high enclosures when the narration demands it (the rain, a protagonist moving on a roof) and resorts to basses that impose it (the carambolages).

CONCLUSION – The explosive will of Benny Chan

Song of his late director's swan (died of cancer in 2020 shortly after the shooting), Raging Fire is an action polar rich in adrenaline that the implacable 4K Ultra HD intensifies!

Raging Fire

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
