WORK – Love, hatred, justice and revenge
Even if he struggles not to make his last mission a personal matter, James Bond is determined to track down those who forced Vesper to betray him. By questioning Mr White, 007 and M learn that the organization to which he belongs is much more complex and dangerous than anything they imagined... Bond then crosses the road of the beautiful and pugnacious Camille, who seeks revenge too. She leads him to Dominic Greene, a ruthless businessman and one of the pillars of the mysterious organization.
Despite a mechanical scenario and facilities « Bondian », this 22nd opus with increased but less emotional violence presents an agent 007 in search of revenge. So we end up with an activator at the nerve setting, where the implacable bravery tracks chain at a steady pace.
IMAGE – Unmasking the culprits
While the beautiful images of this 4K Ultra HD are finer solved (the decors benefit the most), subtly coloured (the shades benefit from greater saturation), significantly contrasted (thanks to purer whites and deeper blacks) and delicately illuminated (details are no longer lost in the high luminances), improvements to the Blu-ray remain minor.
In short, the rendering is a bit flat for a UHD Dolby Vision transfer; especially that the silver grain is not as palpable as expected! Would a noise reducer have been applied? Obviously yes even if the result is treated.
SON – Another Way to Die
Still no 3D audio mixing, but a truly demonstrative VO DTS-HD MA 5.1 that wants to be dreadful efficiency. Dynamic, large and very airy, it delivers a sound that imposes with a spatialization of a wide width and low weight. Totally immersive with an energetic rear scene that does not undermine the effects (gunshots) or the atmosphere (urban life), it also benefits from a particularly enveloping score.
Excellent at its level, however, the VF which is less exalted is not able to deliver the same impact.
CONCLUSION – Anger is not enough
If it is only driven by an inconsolable rage, Bond can count on the present 4K Ultra HD to help him find « in full crowd » Quantum organization!
