Pillars of Eternity was created in 2015, after several years of development financed by approximately 77,000 contributors via Kickstarter, for an amount in excess of $4 million. Developed by Obsidian (Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas), this old-fashioned role-playing game sought to put the computer RPG on the front of the stage, to give a reason to live to the nostalgic Baldurs Gate. So, successful mission? Oh, yes.

The Pillars of the Earth

The mission is successful, more than successful even, because Pills Not only did he delight, but he confirmed how far I had missed something during all these years, fearing to embark on the kind of computer RPG. So it's not about testing the title in good form, since it was released in 2015 and you all already know how much it has marked its audience as rôlists, but rather to give my personal feeling, warm.

My team in Pills It would have made the most inclusive jealousy of you: an animian dwarf archer, a schizophrenic arsonist priest with a masochist tendency, a magician elf who grieves, a tenor invocator, an animorphic druid to the free-speaker, a mute barbaric dwarf tank, a mage from the nobility affected by a simili Tourette syndrome and a clairvoyant lacerator of souls.

These poor bougres, gathered by Destiny, will have to learn to compose together and find common ground to achieve each one's goals. Our main character - whose origins, race and aptitudes you alone decide - proves to be a Guardian, to understand an extralucent capable of reading the souls of the living or their colleagues from beyond, giving rise to passages and sacred glaucosity revelations.

Fair with the pot or the sausage, call it what you want but you'll agree it's a hell of a mess!

The global universe of Pills is extremely dark, with its lot of xenophobia, religious extremism, political conspiracy, and other genocides and crimes against humanity, against the background of ignorance sometimes and often loss of benchmarks. For example, some minorities are considered responsible for the wave of births of soulless infants destined to perish in their cradles. In the title of Obsidian as in ours, to blame a well-designated group avoids confrontation with our own weaknesses and emptiness of our reasoning. So we often find ourselves weighing the pros and cons of each of our answers during the dialogue phases.

Finally, dialogue phases! One hears, the game being intrinsically a gigantic piece of text. One actually spends his time reading in Pills Hey! Whether you're talking in the back of one of your teammates, looking at a stranger's black soul in an inn, or, stupidly, when you're stuffing in a library to expand your knowledge of biology about the blood-sucking poisoned tentacle bug you've met earlier.

The pearl of Obsidian enjoys a literary style to be damned and, despite a few shells here and there, the French translation proves to be excellent. The density of his universe, the richness of his situations, the complexity of the human and divine actors of this world in perdition are the greatest strength of the game, which pays the luxury of offering a high-flying final.

Ich mach dich Krankenhaus

For the last standing enemy, the fight often ends in a regular lynching!

However, we do not just read in Pills Hey! The rest of the time, we break skulls and lie to the credules to fill our purse, when we don't rob them as soon as they have turned their backs, for as long as we have invested enough in its crochet capabilities. Not seen! You can also play it honestly though, it's as you want. My companions were also relatively appreciated in Drywood. Based on active break and intelligently marrying our own decisions with behavioral postures from the AI to define beforehand and a good old friendly fire of families, Pills are both eminently strategic and a merry mess.

It must be said that with six characters on the screen and often the double of enemies beating each other at the same time by pronouncing swears or reciting the latest prophesy of fashionable invocation, you soon feel like you're at a raclette party that would have gone wrong. It will therefore be necessary to harness the strengths and weaknesses of its opponents intelligently, in the purest tradition of old-fashioned role-playing. Thus there is a difference between lacerating and perforating, between endurance and health, between courage and deviation and passing. As for the afflictions and alterations of state, they count in dozens. Under these conditions, it will be crucial to form a varied team able to cope with all eventualities, or to be violently laminated by a cloud of dragonnets with the hormones on fire.

The world of Pillars of Eternity is full of dangers...

Note that Pills takes the interesting part not to reward fighting with experience, unlike a Divinity Original Sin For example. Only the exploration of the world and the completion of the quests will give you galloon. This has the virtuous effect of encouraging the player to use more tricks when interacting with NPCs, which is welcome. Finally, it is impossible not to mention Justin Bell's sublime compositions, which all give off chills when it's not the hen chair. Appointment Here to understand what I'm talking about.

Epilogue

It is for all these reasons that Pillars of Eternity It's transcended. It was just my third computer RPG (after the excellent Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2) And it was the first time that I played it alone, the solitude favoring the melancholy of this imaginary kingdom in which I have never lived. This type of RPG is now among my favorite genres and I look forward to Baldurs Gate 3I'll do it with a friend.

All to say it's been years since I hesitated to launch Pills, discouraged at the idea of facing the richness of its systems or disconcerted in advance against its statistic of characters. After taking such a baffling, I now wonder how many other genres I have ignored by a priori, out of fear or, say, out of laziness. One thing is certain is that there will be a before and a after Pills For me.

Complex but generous, tentacular but never arid thanks to clear tutos even for novices, the role play of Obsidian pays the luxury of putting on the front of the stage a genre of narrative depth that has no limits but the imagination of its creators and your propensity to read more than reason. Respect, therefore, both for the journey travelled with my characters, but also, if not more, for reminding me not to confine myself to my comfort zone.

Permanent resident in the small town of Raccoon City and proselyte of the genius Rain World Since 2017, he is sometimes heard swearing to full lungs when he loses lamentably in front of the monkey of Sekiro To a lemming hair. In search of a 3080 for almost a year, the unfortunate man hopes to receive his order in 2022: the important thing is to believe it! His favorite TOC?
