WORK – Action without infringement
Marcus Ray, Hong Kong representative of a jeans brand, discovers a plot fomented by the Russian mafia: the international marketing of a new ultra-secret weapon, micro bombs.
Voluntaryly degenerate and through stupefying formal experiments, this draft with the staggered tone of the immense Time and Tide is a commercially suicidal buddy movie where Tsui Hark, an authentic film genius never doing anything like the others, has fun shooting a JCVD (their second collaboration after Double TeamIn coke. In short, a filmmaker's revenge for a whole system (Hollywoodian of course).
IMAGE – Green flames for style
From a digital restoration « Extirpated » an old master, this HD transfer now perfectable suffers from an uncertain definition, too soft a pique and a coarse silver texture. Still it is that the colors, not ultra-live either, are more awake than in the past and that the contrasts, still somewhat imprecise, are now more conclusive.
SON – Chinese Pop Brailler
Highlighting the slightest noise, this frenetic soundtrack with the impetuous dynamics and the assured voices of regular basses (but more frail in VF), a wide score and above all a strongly supported surround scene (a little less in VO).
CONCLUSION – The humiliation of Brussels muscles?
Devastating self-parody of a genus, Trap in Hong Kong Unfortunately has to settle for a dated Blu-ray where the image is never up to its visual maestria. There are still many new supplements (including interviews and making-of) and a VHS-BOX edition (limited to 1000 copies) of all beauty that will satisfy the nostalgic of the 80-90s video clubs!
