A few months after the terror Pacification, Benoît Magimel returns his costume too narrow to haunt Algerian landscapes crushed by the sun. Between small, greedy strikes, children's gangs and scumbags, Omar the strawberry was submitted to the Cannes Festival before moving almost simultaneously into the country's rooms.
The spleen of the caïd
Omar (Reda Kateb), nicknamed strawberry, has the evil of the country. This robber can no longer set foot in France because of too many crimes committed in the hexagon, and thus finds himself trapped in Algeria. If he can count on his faithful friend Roger (Benoît Magimel), both lascars struggle to get used to their well-ordered lives. Lizarding in the sun during the day, standing in the hallways of their house where the noise of empty bottles sound at night, new criminal cases will soon give them the hair of the beast.
First filmElias Belkeddar, a young director who made his weapons as a screenwriter before releasing a short noticed : A wedding day. Convening in turn Tarantino and the band of Kurtrajmé (with whom he collaborated), it is however immediately to Pacification that one thinks of the beginning of the feature film via the incarnation of Magimel. Engaged in the same costume too narrow as in the film dAlbert Serra, wearing the same smoked glasses, he'll cheat his replica « You're not my friend. » by one « You want to kiss him » and jubilation. Apart from that, the character is the same.
Bring your strawberry back
But in addition to this flattering comparison for Omar the strawberry, the feature film moves on to a completely different register. He will also develop the spleen of his hero and an emerging love story with an employee of a biscuits factory (Meriem Amiar), until an emotional climax unfortunately a little flat and not necessarily necessary. But other than that – and a few unconvincing footage of a gun – Omar the strawberry He will be able to give rise to the absurdity of the condition of his two evils of hilarious moments of comedy.
If this first film is not perfect, Omar the strawberry It is widely worth a look at for its sumptuous photo and for projections of humour that harm zygomatics. No doubt one of the best comedies of this first half of the year, to discover now in theaters!
