WORK – The shores of time
On vacation in the tropics, a family stops for a few hours on an isolated atoll where they discover with fear that their aging is drastically accelerated and that their entire life will be reduced to this final day.
Adapted from graphic novel Sand castle, this mysterious and fearful open-air camera, which fully exploits its destabilizing concept, makes us live hell in heaven as the day progresses. Retort and clumsy, this paranormal thriller with haletant narration and particularly elaborate staging nevertheless has difficulty expressing his emotions due to unfriendly characters.
IMAGE – On the abandoned beach
This UHD Dolby Vision transfer of all beauty, which magnifies the summer decor while amplifying the unhealthy situation of the work, allows the images captured in 35 mm (in Super 35 format) to stand out effortlessly from those of its HD counterpart.
Much more detailed, it reveals otherwise more refined textures (the imperfections on faces, natural surfaces, grains of sand). Restored with more care, the silver texture is not afraid to express itself without being invasive.
Not brighter but beautified, the colors that increase in density (especially yellows, blues, earth tones and greens) never let themselves go to the slightest overflow (cf. the control of reds). Stronger contrasts reinforce white sharpness (the Mid-Sized Sedan rapper's tank top, clouds) and black depth (Chrystal). And brighter without any dismeasurement (one turns towards an average of 120 nits), the light sources (the sun, the campfire, the coral) are granted extra vivacity.
SOUND – Tropical Nightmare
Proposed in Dolby Atmos, the VO is a harmonious track where the abounding environmental effects (wildlife, the burst of waves) form the body of the story. The dynamics are intense, the spatialization is formidable, the bass oppressors and the dialogues, sometimes out-of-field, of great clarity. Unrepresented, the aerial scene really only intervenes at certain key moments (vocalization of birds, intracranial pressure, underwater crackling).
Equally resounding and barred with noise, the VF unfortunately suffers from a very bad mix of voices. Too weak, they constantly drown under a deluge of atmospheres.
CONCLUSION – Take an old one
If you have to get old one day, but not prematurely like the « prisoners » from this beach, the very effective anti-wrinkles prodiged by the present 4K Ultra HD gives us a welcome treat!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
