WORK – The last place to be
A cosmonaut has been managing on the Moon for three years, the only alternative to the energy crisis on Earth. In two weeks, he's supposed to go home...
Big movie surprise that unfortunately did not have the honors of a theater release at home despite the many rewards she won, Moon is nothing less than a science fiction film as deep as intelligent to absolute technical mastery.
The scenario is loaded with tension, suspense and reflections (on man, solitude, work), the futuristic universe depicted is very realistic, Sam Rockwell is breathtaking and Clint Mansell's magnificent score is hypnotic. Only the pace set could dispel some spectators, but it would be missing a big movie.
So this is a realistic and thoughtful science-fiction work that puts gender back in its human dimension and not spectacular. To be discovered urgently.
IMAGE – The Hidden Face of the Moon
More robust at any point, the otherwise more refined image of this 4K Ultra HD is superb.
The gain in definition is visible (the fineness of textures), the level of detail is exceptional (the wear state of GERTY), the granular structure is no longer noised and displays with more character, the colorimetric spectrum improves the carnation and shades of grey (it is still important when the action takes place on the Moon) while maintaining the sterile aspect of the photograph, the contrasts are even more impressive thanks to the brighter whites (they are fade on the Blu-ray) and the more abyssal blacks, and the light sources are remarkably brighter (the stars, the display of GERTY, the interior lighting and the sun).
SON – The silence of space
With perfect clarity, these sound tracks literally plunge us into the spatial atmosphere of the feature film.
The atmospheres of the station are well integrated into the acoustic space (the shutters that close) in order to amplify the isolation of Sam (the heaviness of the silences), the external effects are regular and easily localizable, the score and bass are not lacking commitment, and the voices are illustrated with a lot of natural (except of course that of GERTY). Reserved but still there when narration demands it (the projections of lunar stones by the harvesters), the air channels of the VO Dolby Atmos are at the « party » during the Rover accident (the metal crash, debris falls and alarm activation).
More narrow, the VF is therefore less anxious.
CONCLUSION – 384,400 km from home...
