WORK – The Horror Ceremony
Dani and Christian are about to separate when Dani's family is affected by a tragedy. Sadly saddened by the mourning of the young woman, Christian cannot resolve to leave her alone and takes him and his friends to a festival that only takes place once every 90 years and takes place in an isolated Swedish village. But what begins as a carefree holiday in a country where the sun does not set will quickly take a much more sinister and disturbing turn.
As worthy heir to the Wicker Man In 1973, this nightmare in the middle of light imposed itself as an excellent film of folk horror with mastered frame, tense atmosphere, inhabited actors, complex narration (themes abound) and openly shocking sequences. Like a slow poison, this ceremony that celebrates the summer solstice turns into one « Bad trip » hallucinatory singularly disturbing. Sensitive souls abstain!
IMAGE – The flowers of evil
With a great elegance and sun-sip, the image of this 4K Ultra HD is much more subtle than the overexposed image of its HD counterpart.
Where a veil « Light » Sacrifice the piqué and contrasts on the Blu-ray, this UHD HDR10 transfer recovers many details (especially through the sunny windows and with the murals), the purity of the whites (the dress of the villagers of Hårga) and the depth of the blacks (cf. the passage to the parents of Dani).
The image is also adorned with denser pastel colours (it is very visible on reds, blues and greens), more realistic lighting (gyrophars, daylight and flames) and a much stronger compression (the artifacts of the introduction scene are ancient history), and is much more convincing here.
SON – « Små grodorna »
Driven by the malaising score of Bobby Krlic (The Haxan Cloak), regularly broadcast through a violent dynamic, this immersive mix with convincing spatialization (the noises of nature) and clear voices is provided with a good balance.
CONCLUSION – Let the festivities begin!
No need to travel to Sweden « living » A traditional midsommar that, during a three-day weekend, will show you the popular beliefs, the dances around the May tree (the midsommarstången) and the culinary traditions of this pagan national festival. Indeed, the Ultra HD Blu-ray will take you to your destination... Even though this event seems to be a step away from the promises made by the tourist office!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

I finally saw Midsommar a little perched and without knowing anything about the movie... Well, I wasn't disappointed by his reputation. What a slap! I don't think I've seen a film with such strong symbolic power and such a clumsy atmosphere since Eyes Wide Shut. It's been a while since he was on my catch-up list and you did well to remind me Brice! ^^^
With pleasure Arthur! 😉
