WORK – The William Wallace of Trocnov
Czech hero Jan Žižka, an honest leader of a band of mercenaries, accomplishes his destiny by waging battles with the armies of the Teutonic Order and the Holy Roman Empire.
Apart from a confused context (political stakes are tense) which is not so easily understood, this historical drama inspired by a true story is a quasi-total war work where the highly worked aesthetics of staging (Ridley Scott has been « studied ») effectively opposes the unheard-of violence of countless battles at the body to body. Leading to the battle by a solid English cast (Ben Foster is very physically involved), this Czech film budgeted at $20 million (their biggest budget) overflows with mud, sweat and blood!
IMAGE – Excursion in Bohemia
In the backlight of the lights, this HD image is adorned with its most beautiful art. The plans are of great finesse and full of details, the photograph in winter shades is beautifully naturalistic, the ultra-incisive contrasts ensure day (maximum brightness) as at night (black ink) « pierced » by the moon and/or torches), and the compression resists all the way along (before leaving the colour banding in the final image).
SON – The Fight from Freedom
Powerful and enveloping, this soundtrack is suitable for making the wildness of the show (the subtlety is not on the rendezvous) flood the acoustic space of the blaze of white weapons and blows carried with strength (despite a slight lack on the bass side). The front is vehement, the immersive rear scene (the effects of atmospheres) and the music is ample as possible.
While it is preferable to select the VO for actors' interpretation, mixing the VF is equivalent in its distribution and scope.
CONCLUSION – The beginning of the Hussit wars...
Since the love of freedom has always made men's hearts beat, Netflix acquired the brutal Medieval whose A/V combative performances are an asset far from being negligible to win!
