WORK – I remember the road warrior...
In an undefined future, oil reserves are exhausted and violence prevails over the world. Max, a former road safety officer, is helping a community of fugitives struggling with hijackers. The battle revolves around a refinery tank.
From the post-apocalyptic cult action tinted with western where the crazy class of his vigilante hero, the distinctive individualization of secondary characters (the autogira driver, the boy at the boomerang, the Lord Humungus), the gigantism of the decorations (the refinery), the beauty of the landscapes (the Australian Outback), the devastating design of the vehicles and the fury of motorized chase races (the epic final pursuit) have long marked the minds.
IMAGE – Erreasing on desolate land
From a new 4K scan of 35 mm negatives, the unfiltered image (the anomalies of the source, like the numerous blurries and the overload of grains in low light, continue to survive), always dominated by dirt and regularly sipped with sun, crosses the finish line with « miles ahead » on the previous Blu-ray.
Very solidly encoded (beautiful control of the granular structure) and proposed in HDR10, it displays details that are otherwise clearer than in the past (the scratches and/or rust on the bodywork, the clothes covered with sands) and gives intensity to the colors, contrasts and overall brightness.
More full-bodied and extremely warm (even though the carnation is healthier), the colorimetric palette delivers more fished primary (the bright blue sky, the burning orange flames) and richer secondary shades (the tones of earth, the pieces of colorful costumes). More boldly, the contrasts spread thick blacks (a better demarcation of the shadows) and radiant whites flourishing (duvetous clouds as desired). And brighter, the different lights display reflections (on metal bodies) incomparably more realistic than in the past.
SON – Age of chaos
Between the removal and/or modification of certain effects (including engine noise), this voluntarily modernised Dolby Atmos soundtrack (it would be a director's choice) could unleash passions!
Much more aggressive and favouring metallic bursts at dialogues (which are now absent and or almost mute during the enlivened sequences), it shows an unprecedented spatial width (cf. the displacement of vehicles in the desert), a bold dynamic (the roaring of engines), low heavyweights (the explosion of the refinery) and a sharp partition. Relatively silent, however, the aerial sphere is spreading a few times (the passage of a boomerang, debris falls, overflights of the Gyrocopetera). In comparison, the all narrow VF SD is pale.
⚠ Unlike the announcement that had been made, the VO Dolby Digital 2.0 does not embark the original mix but a downmix of the new 3D track. As a result, with regard to an involuntary error on the part of the publisher (and perhaps recognized as a result of the complaint relayed by purists), a repressing of the disc with the real stereo soundtrack of origin is currently underway (like a replacement program for first-time buyers)... That's why we're delaying our way out.
CONCLUSION – Death fight for Gazpille
On the roads was the nightmare of the white line. Only the most mobile libustists, the most ruthless looters survived... And it was on this devastated land that Max, a man haunted by the demons of his past, learned to live again... Even as this rotting maelström is even more palpable in 4K Ultra HD!
