WORK – Mars, the new American West
Ilsa, her husband Reza and his daughter Remmy fled Earth for Mars. Set up in an isolated and inhospitable colony, they cling to the hope of a better life. When assailants invade the premises, the family is taken hostage and must adapt to survive. Remmy is then confronted with a reality that her parents did everything to hide...
Prioritizing the atmosphere (a deleterious climate) to action, this futuristic westernist in near camera that confronts a family with its own shadow zones unfortunately overflies most of its (interesting) thematic areas. But anxious and unexpected in his approach, this sepulchral initiatory tale with careful decors, with familiar slowness and strong women, repaints unsaid to better evoke the survival of man conditioned by the viscerally programmed reactions of everyone!
IMAGE – One « elsewhere » ?
Between images (captured in 6K and resulting from a DI 4K) of this UHD HDR10 transfer and (more flat) images of its HD counterpart, there is a « planet » Hey!
Clearer (all surfaces are better textured) and much better compressed (the colour banding, very present on the Blu-ray, is ultra-rare here), they incorporate more glowing colors (only earthy in SDR), really enhanced contrasts (cf. increased intensity between the brighter, brighter, and darker, more unfathomable areas) and light sources that are otherwise more radiant (the sun, stars, interior lighting and reflections).
SON – The Great Silence
Using rare (the narration hardly lends itself to it) but very good surround effects (the voices of the protagonists moving around the camera), this soundtrack laid and ventilated (the Martian wind fills space) leans on a percussive partition, seditious bass (when the threat roars) and a scenarized increase in dynamics (the opening of the large airlock).
CONCLUSION – Behind colonization, hope?
If it is decidedly very difficult to be quiet anywhere, the present 4K Ultra HD will try to make you live « Peacefully » in a remote area of the red planet!
