WORK – Tell us a story!

Bastien, ten, is a passionate about adventure novels. One day he steals a wonderful work of extraordinary creatures. He sinks febrily into the fantastic universe of this book that fascinates him...

Against modernity and for the durability of the imagination, this moral tale in which reality and fiction are combined is a cult work of the 80s that never ceased to fascinate as to the wonder that it provides. In turn, reassuring, strange and frightening, this initiatory adventure with inexhaustible wealth is ultimately allowed to go to the wonderful... For the greatest pleasure of readers, here transformed into spectators!

IMAGE – Hand Illustrated

Despite the special effects dated (but still as charming), the images delivered by this UHD HDR10 transfer fly beyond the limits of Fantasia... Far away from those aging from its HD counterpart released in France in 2010. Drawn from a 4K remasterization (scan 4.5K of the original negatives + use of an intermediary for sequences reserved for the Directors Cut), they appear with unprecedented splendour.

The compression is otherwise stronger (HEVC vs. VC-1), the definition is no longer fluttering and the sting has made a big good forward (to convince itself, it is enough to observe the mortals Marcages of Melancholia or the ivory fur of Falkor). A flat, however, the 35 mm silver texture appears as slightly softened. In fact, the grain was manually filtered before being artificially added... For a more harmonious rendering after the technicians who operated on this master's degree.

Finally cleared of the hard contrasts (blacks were terribly blocked and whites much too bright) and too warm colors (a new calibration was made for the occasion) of the Blu-ray, the images can relive! The shades are much more natural (carnation, blue sky, greenery), dark scenes find details where the clouds return to contours, and the light sources are now fully staying in a fantastic universe (the pearly scales of the lucky dragon, the stars, the green eyes of the giant wolf, the candles, the golden or blue glow of the Sphinx, etc.).

SON – Never ending story ♪♪♪

If the dynamic lacks breath (except for the bursts with Gmork) and the spatialization is a little narrow (some localized effects of this and that is about everything), the DTS-HD HRA 5.1 mixing of the VO remains clear and homogeneous while surprising in the use of its basses (cf. the thundering arrival of Pyornkrachzark), physical as possible.

Given its time and the absence of a real remix, this soundtrack is generally satisfactory.

CONCLUSION – Travel to the country of fantasy

If in your mind the magical world of Fantasia continues to exist, the tale can last forever... And for even more magic, opt for the Ultra HD Blu-ray!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
