WORK – Eyes Without Face bis
A doctor, assisted by his mistress, attracts and kills young women in a private clinic. Her goal: to recover flesh to reconstruct her sister's disfigured face following the revenge of a discontented patient.
More ambitious French horrific production of the 80's, this very unhealthy B series owes to the pope of the Z Jesús Franco is a modernized version of the Eyes without face, the classic Georges Franju, just as much as a sincere tribute to cinema bis. And if the little concerned interpretation of a heterogeneous casting (of Helmut Berger to Brigitte Lahaie, former glory of the X) and lazy writing evoke the inherent flaws of gender in France, this courageous work that dares graphic violence (from the gore craspec you want of it) is a vestige of the deviance of Dantan that must be preserved.
IMAGE – The Horror Clinic
From a 4K scan of the original 35 mm negative operated in 2022, this UHD HDR10 transfer preserves the organic appearance of the photograph (signed Maurice Fellus) delivers a significantly higher resolution than in 1080p where depth, detail (burned flesh) and granular texture display without fireworks (neither DNR nor EE) or compression artifacts. There are just a few spots and other scratches visible from there (especially during the presentation of Dr. Moser).
The reproduction of the colors is intended to be more nuanced (the pinkish shades are now fully assured while widening the blue touches) with a healthier carnation, the contrasts are better adjusted with a nice level of black (the scenes in Gordon's room gain a lot) and the brighter whites (the blouses), and the light sources are illustrated by a raised shine (public lighting, surgical lamps).
SON – Doudou!?
Without breath or distortion, these two 2.0 Mono soundtracks that play the same game (mixing is the same) diffuse with as much cleanness as balance the dialogues, effects and memorable score of Romano Musumarra (feat. Vincent Thoma). The dynamic range is decent and the clarity constant.
CONCLUSION – Before/after the operation...
Delivered in a limited edition of 1000 copies in the form of a three-part digipack of very nice invoice, this production René Château regains its original beauty in 4K Ultra HD. Let yourself be tempted by lifting without surgery!
