WORK – Sicilian Vengeance
Since the death of Don Vito Corleone, his son Michael has ruled the family. After negotiating with the Jewish mafia, he lost the support of one of his lieutenants, Frankie Pentageli. Hardly escaping an attack, Michael tries to find the culprit.
The family tragedy in three acts continues with this continuation that goes beyond his illustrious paternal. Like her predecessor, she immortalizes a staging with completed classicism, a tufted scenario particularly chiseled (where father and son cross at distance) and inhabited actors (which will become legends). Between the quest for the throne, betrayals, fratricidal rivalries and murders, this second part that gains in emotion refers us to a funeral theatre where the « puppeteer », in the shadow of his father, will become the « pantin » of his own power.

Similar to that done on the first stage, this meticulous 4K restoration (worked from the 2007 version of Robert Harris) supervised by his director is a real treat for the eyes.
The silver texture (a 35 mm capture) is more delicious than in the past (more fine and harmonious), the master has been particularly well cleaned, the definition is even more striking (the backgrounds in the background) and the details have been clearly refined (the features of the faces, the fibers of clothing).
The colorimetric palette, less warm and no longer allowed to go to magenta drifts, is firmer (primary) and precise (carnation), contrasts have been adjusted for purer whites (white shirts) and better drawn blacks (dark scenes are less crushed), and light sources (inner lighting, fireworks) ensure better clarity (overexposures are ancient history).
SOUND – Silence of loneliness
More immersive than that of the first part, this mix proposed in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (accompanied by the original remastered monophonic soundtrack) is of great clarity. The dialogues are clear, the solid dynamics (the machine-gun room), the realistic atmospheres (the fauna in Sicily), the measured but confident rear scene (the immigrants on Ellis Island) and the score, of vital importance, bewitching.
The multichannel VF is far from as homogenous as the VO. More flat but rarely affected by weather damage, the VF Dolby Digital 2.0 mono has the advantage of presenting the dubbing period (1974).
CONCLUSION – Back to business!
Only prisoner of the kingdom he built on the ruins of his family, Michael Corleone is the witness « privileged » (like the spectators in front of the present 4K Ultra HD) of a cursed legacy that traditions have led to an inevitable bloodbath!
