WORK – Your papers!
The Gendarme Cruchot is transferred to St-Tropez with one more strap. When he arrives, he shows himself from the outset of intransigence that surprises his subordinates. Her daughter dazzled by the luxury of St-Tropez, to be accepted by her sons to the local daddy, pretends to be the daughter of a rich Yachtman. Meanwhile, Cruchot hunts nudists...
Typical of the 1960s, this « small » sunny comedy with a scenario as light as a bikini seduced by his casting (Louis de Funès is in great shape), his characters (the affable peasant, the ahuris colleagues, the tropezian bourgeois), his postcard France and his burlesque scenes (the choir, the nudists, the 2CV). Definitely pull-in-flanc but very friendly!
IMAGE – Mutated in the Var?
From a 4K scan of the 35 mm negative prepared by the Daems laboratory and a restoration (reconstruction of the LM, digital calibration and digital restoration in 4K) fully supervised by Hiventy, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer of high quality proves to be more exotic than it should be when we do not leave the hedonist capital!
Apart from a few passages below (a handful of planes present a clearly visible wear of the film), the definition and piqué pay a leap in front just exceptional. The accuracy of the images is multiplied (the backgrounds in the background), the details come out as never before (faces, car saddlery, outfits) and the silver grain has been religiously preserved. As for the contrasts, firmly consolidated, they densify the blacks (intro in black and white) and avoid to the brightest areas of the frame too premature clasping. It is also worth mentioning that the light of the day, more dazzling than in the past, makes you want to take a sunbathing.
But here it is, the colorimetric palette is strangely tropical and is quite far away from the photograph of its ops boss Marc Fossard. Eminently more saturated (cf. primary) and much warmer, it appose mainly a cyan/green tint that comes « polluter » whites (shirts, national flag) and transvestinate the sky like the sea in Caribbean mode. In its (highly questionable) desire to stick to modern tastes, the Hiventy laboratory forgot to respect the artistic choices of the time; even if it must be admitted that the rendering remains flattering.
SON – The March of the Mar floor
Without breath or distortion, this monophonic soundtrack proposed in DTS-HD MA 2.0 perfectly balances its dialogues (hilarating and globally clear), its music (cultivism and well dynamic) and its atmospheres (detracted and necessarily frontal). If nothing modern, the time mixing is here carefully restored.
CONCLUSION – Attention!
If the new colour of the uniform is to your liking, no doubt you will resume service at the St. Tropez Gendarmerie. It is good to live there, the atmosphere is summer and relaxation is guaranteed!
