While I regularly repatriate my old 4K Ultra HD tests before MaG, I ended up with a certain amount adopting a format more than light. In fact, rather than abandoning them in the limbos of the web, I had the idea of creating this section. And then, this Bazar isn't there to replace my longer and more detailed articles. Good reading!

Source United States | Publisher : Warner Bros. | Release date : 27 September 2016
Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English DTS-HD MA 5.1 – French (Quebec) Dolby Digital 5.1 (film version)
Artistic : 7 | Video : 8.5 | Audio : 9

This buzzy movie where comedians seem to have a lot of fun is an action comedy with an energetic rhythm, disenchanted characters (the improbable duo) and well-feeling gags. So this good entertainment does the job. A clarity of every moment, chiselled details (even more than in HD), richly saturated colors and beautiful vitality, seductive contrasts and natural blacks. Compared to Blu-ray, the colorimetric palette with a little more dazzling primaries and more intense whites is more vibrant, brighter contrasts, brighter reflections, brighter lights (neon) and deeper dark scenes. A lively dynamic, a scene in perpetual motion, immersive atmospheres (road traffic or office life), impeccable pyrotechnic effects, a wide score and never-ending dialogues.

Format 1.85 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French (Quebec) Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 7 | Video : 10 | Audio : 10

With its destructive humor, its punchy dialogues, its frantic rhythm and its volatiles all but sad, this animated adaptation of the video game is a fiercely effective cartoon comedy. The HD transfer is already fabulous but the Ultra HD version is better at all points. The most remarkable being the gain in finesse brought to the details, the more vivid aspect of the colors and the more subtle nuances of the lighting. Active atmospheres, highly localizable back effects, well spaced music and solid bass. Atmos mixing adds some indirect elements that reinforce immersion (echo in the Eagle Cave).

Format 2.40 – DI 4K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 7 | Video : 8.5 | Audio : 10

Despite a more conventional last part, this spectacular, funny and original superproduction presents a politically incorrect superhero far from the usual clichés of the genre. A real good moment of relaxation. The silver grain is more visible but remains discreet, the details are much thinner, the warmer colors have better shades, the night scenes are more legible and the light sources are much brighter. From explosive sound tracks to flattering dynamics and fully studied spatialization, where all channels are pressed according to narration. In Atmos for example, Hancock flies very distinctly above us.

Format 2.39 – DI 4K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French SDR 5.1
Artistic : 6 | Video : 8.5 | Audio : 8.5

Despite barely sketched characters, this blockbuster of mass destruction that eats to all the rakes of the modern SF remains a pure regressive pleasure thanks to stunning action scenes and insane SFX. A goldsmith definition, impressive details (upgraded in UHD, especially in the dark), beautifully nuanced colours and sharp contrasts. The grain, well present, is fatally more visible than in HD. And despite a rather discreet extended dynamic range (clearly a bias), HDR technology allows to enlarge the colorimetric palette, to intensify a little more light sources (the projectors) and to make the blacks (space) in depth. While some noises lack presence, this aggressive Atmos mixing with overactive channels (including vertical support during vessel overflights) still diffuses thundering pyrotechnic effects and grumbling bass.

Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French (Quebec) Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 6.5 | Video : 7.5 | Audio : 9.5

Less surprising and subtle but just as playful as its model, this well-rhythmed drawer thriller whose tricks are executed by an elegant casting, blends magic, suspense and action with maestria. A slight increase in close-up details, a more pronounced depth on panoramic planes and slightly more dynamic colours. However, the contrasts are barely less flat and the HDR is quite discreet. A truly immersive Atmos mix that perfectly incorporates its atmospheres (atmospheric for high-rise speakers) and effects to narration. The lively music and cadenced bass reinforce this good impression.

Format 2.39 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French (Parisian) Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 7.5 | Video : 10 | Audio : 10

This summer B series worn by a Blake Lively Sexy is an animal survivor with a clever script and implacable suspense, whose appearances of the terrifying predator provide sudden rise of stress. More obvious clarity, clearer details, finer textures, more refined and saturated colours, more realistic reflections (water), a more dazzling sky and night scenes richer in information. A dreadful Atmos mixing with immersive aquatic atmospheres (waves), worked height effects (flying seagulls and underwater pressure), violent dynamics (attacks) and low extremes.

Format 2.40 – DI 4K – HDR10 | English DTS:X – French DTS-HD HR 7.1
Artistic : 7.5 | Video : 9.5 | Audio : 9.5

This thriller of modern espionage to vigorous staging and post-Snowden plot deliberately simple but devilishly effective, is a pure haunting action film directed by a Matt Damon Imperial. A successful comeback! A UHD Master in tempered steel that delivers clarity of every moment, precise details (the gain is considerable compared to Blu-ray), rich colors, powerful contrasts, refined ciné grain and controlled compression. The more nuanced and natural colorimetric palette, much brighter lights (light, neon and daylight) (the final one in Las Vegas is very demonstrative), more burning flames and significantly increased black density. An immersive mix (the stunning use of the rear scene) and dynamic (the aggressiveness of the action scenes) with a wide score, living atmospheres (the demonstrators), very well integrated directional effects and firm dialogues.

This horrific drama as successful on form as on the background, carried by a Will Smith credible and moving, transports us into a suffocating post-apo universe populated by voracious creatures. A blockbuster that takes the guts! A sublime UHD master with extremely deep blacks, fantastic contrasts, opulent colors, fearsome definition, dreadful details (lighter, subtle and sharper than in HD) and reserved silver grain. Colorimetry, here more earthy, gains in vitality (the red of the Shelby GT-500) and in richness (orange shades), dark scenes become more precise, counter-days are more legible and lighting much more intense. From spectacular sound tracks to heavy basses, to the very active rear scene (the screams and movements of mutants), to rich atmospheres (the locusts), to remarkable spatialization and incredible dynamics.

Between petaradant narco-thriller, science-fiction of anticipation and metaphysical trip, this very ambitious high-tech entertainment to spectacular staging and multiple inspiration sources should unleash passions. A more obvious clarity, much richer details and textures, a more remarkable feeling of depth, fabulous colours better saturated, blinding whites, deeper blacks and contrasts to the tablet. An Atmos-anthology blend that uses the effects of height to good effect for a stinging bubble effect. For the rest, the dynamics are energetic, the atmospheres are detailed, the effects swirl and the bass are deep.

Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 7 | Video : 9.5 | Audio : 10

This blockbuster of action with dizzying staging, hysterical rhythm, thundering SFX and regressive humor, is an overvitamined adventure where heroes come out of their shells. A guilty pleasure for fans! A magnificent UHD transfer to solid definition, with very fine details (more perceptible than in HD), with pimping colors, intense contrasts and ebony blacks. The colorimetric palette is richer (the green skin of the turtles is more saturated and the neons more intense), the chromatic reflections more pronounced (the sparkle of the shells in the city), the whites more punchy and the shadows more legible. Immersive, rich in atmospheres (the stadium) and circular effects (the motorway), generous in bass and decomplexed on the side of the air channels (the inter-dimensional portal), this mixing Atmos is particularly fun. VF shy back.

Oblivion

Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 9 | Video : 8 | Audio : 10

A film by SF magisterial and raced with fabulous artistic direction (dizzying post-apo universe and bewitching BO) and malignant script, which offers Tom Cruise a role as the savior of humanity at the height of its (de)measure. Close-up designs more detailed but wider softer (cinematic look), deeper contrasts and warmer colours. Thanks to the HDR the skys are bluer, the explosions more dazzling and the darkness more legible. An Atmos titaniumsque mix at the dynamic front stage, precise spatialization, rich atmospheres, surround and height effects (Jack's voice by radio) generous, enveloping music and faramineous bass.

This horrific comedy adapted from the book of Seth Grahame-Smith is a fantastic film carefully crafted with a curious and original concept, which has fun fighting pretty young girls of the English bourgeoisie in fun action scenes. Finer and more detailed textures, denser and saturated colours (reds and blond hair), more intense and legible blacks, reflections and lighting of a rare shine, and a tenfold image dynamics. With a power and a scale that is often too large, this mix with clear voices and precise spatialisation diffuses enveloping atmospheres and spectacular effects on the back and on the top (the debris of explosions).

Format 1.78 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French DTS-HD MA 7.1
Artistic : 8.5 | Video : 10 | Audio : 10

Where Godzilla cross Transformers (with two brains) Pacific Rim, a high-end science fiction blockbuster with special effects and dantesque confrontations. A dream of a kid who's moving hard! A perfect UHD master with a formidable definition, an unreal precision (slimmer textures than in HD), a magnificent colorimetric palette, scotch contrasts and abyssal blacks. It's just sumptuous... Especially as the contribution of the HDR allows the fluorescent colors to be even more hallucinating (broader and brighter), the lighting to be brighter (neon), the explosions to be more intense and the details in the shadows to be clearer. A fragrant Atmos track with ultra-immersive spatialization, a very rich rear scene, with decoupling height effects (lights, beating rain, helicopters, IEM explosion), wide score and rabid bass.

N/A Ghosts (2016)

Source France | Publisher : Sony Pictures | Release date : 10 December 2016
Format 2.39 and 1.78 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Auro-3D – French Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 6.5 | Video : 8.5 | Audio : 9.5

Humour stripping and deluge of special effects for this fantastic farce led by a sacred squad of chicks, which resurrects (and respects) the saga without demerit despite a development too similar to the 1984 version. It is chiseled, coloured and contrasted with details that bloom (even finer in UHD) from all corners of the frame and a colorimetry that explodes the retina. Small disappointment on the side of some blacks, not solid enough (even sometimes washed up), even if the dark scenes become firmer. But the shades are richer saturated (green and/or blue ghosts), more vibrant contrasts and much brighter light sources (flavours). Sustained sound immersion from beginning to end thanks to powerful dynamics, precise spatialization, enveloping effects/ambiences, a wide score and vigorous basses.

Artistic : 7 | Video : 8.5 | Audio : 9.5

Even if the scenario is unlikely, this paranoid spying film at the Bourne is carried by a Angelina Jolie in super-shape and rhythmic by an over-vitamined staging that follows spectacular action scenes. A slightly more visible silver granularity, a more detailed definition, more sophisticated colours, even deeper blacks and more dazzling lighting. The difference remains, however, measured. Clear voices, a formidable dynamic, carefully located surround effects and powerful bass for a highly controlled mixing. On the VO Atmos, a ceiling bomb and the blades of a helicopter will mark the spirits.

Alone on Mars - Extended Edition

Alone on Mars

Source United States | Publisher : 20th Century Fox | Release date : 07 June 2016
Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos – French (Quebec) Dolby Digital 5.1
Artistic : 8.5 | Video : 9.5 | Audio : 9.5

This Robinson Crusoe on Mars with an optimistic tone is a highly successful space survival carried by a Matt Damon resourcefulness and technical know-how Ridley Scott. The clarity is stronger, the finest details come out better, the textures are more refined, the colors are richer and appear as warmer, the brightness is fantastic and the depth of the blacks more nuanced. Immersive as possible, this subtle mixing requires all the speakers (obvious input from the height speakers) to diffuse rich atmospheres (the Martian bise), controlled effects (the sandstorm) and clear dialogues.

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad

Source France | Publisher : Warner Bros. | Release date : 03 December 2016
Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English and French Dolby Atmos
Artistic : 6 | Video : 8.5 | Audio : 9

Between gravity and lightness, this blockbuster, faithful to the laws of the genre and non-transgressive, suffers from a bancial assembly that stops on nothing. The super-villains are fortunately cool, the action is indeed there and the universe DC worth mentioning. Despite tingling on 4-5 planes, this UHD transfer is commendable. The definition is impeccable, the complex details (finer than in HD), the stylized colors, the sharp contrasts and the very discreet silver grain. The colorimetric palette there is more perennial (Mr. J's hair) and less deaf (grey), the lights radiate more (too dark in HD), the flames are revived (hot in HD) and the details in the shadows are no longer crushed. Rich in atmospheres and effects distributed generously on all enclosures (such as aircraft, helicopters and metro resonances for heights), this dynamic mixing with devastating bass ensures a serious show.

Warcraft: The beginning

Warcraft: The beginning

Source France | Publisher : Universal Pictures | Release date : 11 October 2016
Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English and French Dolby Atmos
Artistic : 7 | Video : 9 | Audio : 10

This blockbuster d the popular videoludic franchise sticking to his screenwriting and graphic universe. It is spectacular and visually impressive but hermetic for the non-initiated. More distinct details, stronger textures and (less loud) colors with much more shades. The HDR restores clouds to the sky and brings brilliance to armor, brightness to weapons and vivacity to lightning. An immersion of all the moments coupled with a monstrous dynamic, for an Atmos mixing inside that does not forget the effects of height (the passages of the griffon) or the basses that strongly support the action.

Watchmen: Guardians - The Ultimate Cut

Watchmen: Guardians

Source United States | Publisher : Warner Bros. | Release date : 19 July 2016
Format 2.40 – DI 2K – HDR10 | English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (STFR)
Artistic : 10 | Video : 8 | Audio : 9.5

Far from the clichés of the genre, this monumental fresco, as cerebral as it is spectacular with the disoriented, cynical and damaged superheroes, is a faithful and fascinating adaptation of the comics cult Moore and Gibbons. A masterpiece. The details are clearer, the primary colors are more dynamic, the blacks are more graduated and the light sources are brighter. But be warned that the silver grain, more visible than in HD, is sometimes unsightly. A mix calibrated with accuracy and very generous in furious and/or insolent serious effects, where all channels are constantly pressed for total immersion.

X-Men: Revelation

X-Men: Revelation

Source France | Publisher : 20th Century Fox | Release date : 19 September 2016
Format 2.40 – DI 4K – HDR10 | English Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD MA 7.1 – French DTS 5.1
Artistic : 7 | Video : 9.5 | Audio : 10

This is not the best opus of the franchise, but this episode with the pharaonic budget is a very good entertainment of action rhythmic by pieces of apocalyptic bravery and passages to radical dramatic tension. A higher definition, more visible details, more saturated and yet more subtle colors, more readable blacks, much more accomplished contrasts, brighter reflections and brighter lighting. That's great! This devastating mixing of the dynamics of hell and bass XXL is full of atmospheres and effects that express themselves on all the speakers (often of height understood) with a real concern of detail. The FV is less rich at the back.

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
