WORK – Our souls to the devil
Leland Gaunt, an apparently harmless old gentleman, just opened a shop at Castle Rock. An incredible place where everyone can find, for a derisory price, what he has always dreamed of. But Leland Gaunt's intentions are not as benevolent as he claims, and soon the small town will fall into chaos.
Faithful to Stephen King's (long) eponymous novel, even though cut, summarized and concentrated (the original story takes place on nearly 600 pages!), this fantastic thriller enjoys a first-rate casting (the late Max von Sydow is enchanting in demon manipulator) is a satire of consumerism and greed. Diabolically effective with his quarrels between neighbours (many of whom are only touched), his black humour, his austere village and his chaotic finale, this adaptation should seduce the author's fans!
IMAGE – Welcome to Castle Rock
Far from having been sufficiently cleaned (of occasional scratches and/or dust) and suffering from an obvious reduction of grain (filtering requires, the finest details are lost), the image of this HD master is unfortunately not as strong as expected. On the other hand, the piqué remains overall clear, the colors are healthy, the contrasts, with some variations of the black, relatively balanced and solid compression. In any case, the intriguing atmosphere is fully preserved!
SON – The art of manipulation
Proposed in 5.1 while it was previously listening only in 2.0 (and the thing is also true in French), the VO encoded in DTS-HD MA regularly extends its effects (electric shocks, shots) like its atmospheres (life in the streets of Castle Rock, the rustling of leaves) to envelop the spectator. The basses are deep (the engine of the Mercedes de Gaunt and the explosions), the spatialisation conforming to the events (cf. the apple throw), the voices clearly diffused and the score, signed Patrick Doyle, robust.
A little more tightened and weakened by a dubbing mixed at too high a level, the VF still remains entirely acceptable.
CONCLUSION – Do you want to get the object of your dreams?
Finally visible from here in HD and in long version (180 min / SD / VOST 2.0) thanks to the Rimini Editions editor, The Bazaar of Fear s « Master of horror » must possess!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
