Shaun of the Dead, the red color of the blood
Shaun shares an ordinary life between her roommates, her favorite pub and her girlfriend Liz. The latter, overcome by his chronic passivity, decides one night to break up. The next morning, an army of zombies plunges into London immerse the entire city in chaos: Shaun's dreamed opportunity to regain Liz's heart by becoming a hero...
This horrific so british comedy barred with references to pop culture, a sort of satire of the myth of the dead-living by Romero, is an entertainment stripping with effective counter humor and crazy sequences, which sometimes resorts to gore to remind spectators that it remains attached to the genre that it parodys: the movie of zombies!
Despite minimal « failed » (some spots, contour reinforcements and shallow blacks), this HDR10+ UHD transfer is a notable improvement over Blu-ray. The silver texture of the work has gained in density, the definition has made a good forward, the details are displayed with greater sharpness (faces, clothes, decors), the colors enjoy a certain refinement (especially greens and reds), the contrasts are more dynamic (whites are more striking and blacks are often firmer) and the light sources are ever more intense (light of the day and interior lighting).
Robust (high bass) and immersive, the soundtrack DTS:X is a living track that uses channels allocated to it (it takes advantage of the rear scene and high speakers) to fill the scene of listening to moods (the atmospheres of the street), effects (fires, moaning of zombies) and music. Closer at the front (the surrounds are more discreet) and less dynamic, the VF is not as engaging as the VO.

Hot Fuzz, the blue color of the police
In London, policeman Nicholas Angel is so good that he makes his colleagues look like mere peacekeepers. Its head therefore decides on the « promote » In the little village of Sandford, where nothing is happening. But a series of strange crimes will put him back in action...
Deliciously absurd and completely barred, this so british comedy is a parody of polar action with savoury cinephile clinks, playful outrancing staging, enthusiastic actors, devastating humour, stunning gunfights and well-conducted intrigue. A real guilty pleasure.
A disappointing UHD HDR10+ transfer where the silver texture was « cleaned», where increased resolution struggles to be seen (the pores of the skin and again!) and where the use of WCG and HDR is (too) moderate. Less flashing and stronger, however, the colours and lighting sources offer the images a natural that they did not have on the Blu-ray; especially as the improvement of contrasts (bold white and dense black) is evident.
Before launching this DTS:X track, think about warning your neighbors! With an extremely wide dynamic, exceptionally rich spatialisation, destructive (or not) pyrotechnic effects, regular atmospheres, a very committed rear scene, player high channels (overflight of a helicopter, the final shooting), intense score, grumbling basses and clear voices, it is hardly to say that it offers an acoustic spectacle of all the moments with memorable over-amplified madness. Less demonstrative, the VF still comes out of hand.

The Last Pub before the end of the world, the green color of aliens
20 years after completing a tour of epic bars, five childhood friends gather and resume the drink marathon in their hometown. Their goal: to achieve the last pub: « The End of the World ».
This crazy and dramatic SF movie parody of invasion is a 100% British delirium where it's about beers, the crisis of quarantine and aliens! And if it is true that it blows along the length, absurd humor, disenchanting replicas, the depth of its themes (nostalgia, friendship) and the winks of the counterculture, give furiously the desire to finish the barathon (a marathon of bars).
Little difference on the side of textures even if a subtle gain of sharpness appears in the background, but the gap widens significantly through revitalized colors (the « blood » android blue), solidified contrasts (improvement of the level of blacks) and intensified lighting (see light emanating from the invaders' orifices). Too bright and ankylosed by fad hues, the Blu-ray is much flatter.
If he wakes up that when the narration takes an unexpected turn (from the altercation in the toilets), this mixing with soft atmospheres (when the action is far away) then more tense (the army of the « copies ») delivers pleasant spatialization, adequate dynamics, weight effects, enthusiastic score, deep bass and clear dialogues. Despite the lack of a safe and the absence of the air scene (narration during the introduction, passage with the Network), the VF is doing well.
