WORK – Female Exorcism

To combat a global increase in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church secretly reopened the schools of exorcism. Although it is forbidden for nuns to perform this ritual, Sister Ann, a young nun, stands out as a promising fighter on the spiritual front line.

If, of course, the poncifs and the easy jumpscares take possession of the body of the intrigue, this umpteenth incursion into a rinsed subgenus gets the absolution by its soul supplement. Heroin is charismatic, rituals cause some chills and its context « realistic » empowers therapy (depression and guilt are invoked) alongside prayers.

Even if dark, little coloured and embellished with a false silver texture (added in post-prod), the nicely quintantous photography becomes more in character with this UHD Dolby Vision transfer.

The details are even more sharp than in HD (face features, demonic make-up, textures of decors), the voluntarily attenuated colorimetric palette enriches with more attractive primary (blood, priestly clothes), contrasts clearly reinforced benefit from the ambient darkness (dense blacks and brighter whites) and light sources, not bright at the request of the Vatican, spark an extra spark (lamps, candles).

SON – Get out of this body!

Immersive at all possible and not caring for any of the hearing tropes of the genre, the VO Dolby Atmos will blow you up on the ceiling.

The dynamics are well marked, the surrounding activity is not lacking (the glaucous atmospheres have taken home behind), the horrific effects fulminent, the aerial scene is mobilized as soon as the narration demands it (the rain, thunder, the extraction of a demon, the flashing of ceiling lights), the dialogues are clear throughout, the score of Nathan Barr fills all the channels and bass are felt as needed.

Less finely spatialized and amputated by the verticality of the sound, the VF(I) is not as gifted as its 3D consœur to fight the malignant. Nevertheless, it remains broad and vigorous enough to defend itself at best.

CONCLUSION – Vade retro?

If the revival of the film is still waiting, this laudable attempt at the era #MeToo is at good school with this technically meritorious 4K Ultra HD. Will you let him in?

The Devil's Promise

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
