WORK - The Arch of Noa
Several generations after Caesar's reign, the monkeys definitely took power. Humans, on the other hand, have regressed to the wild state and live in retreat. As a new tyrannical leader gradually builds his empire, a young monkey embarks on a perilous journey that will lead him to question everything he knows about the past...
At the crossroads of heritage and renewal, this initiatory journey that digs the lore of The Planet of Monkeys continues to wonder about the difficulties of living together as myths and beliefs (often misappropriated) mix with them. And even if the emotion is less palpable than with Caesar, this great adventure film multiplys the adventures in front of the agile camera of Wes Ball (trilogy The Labyrinth) brings a new breath to the franchise.
« During their reign, humans were able to do great things. They could fly like eagles. They could talk beyond the oceans. But today is our reign... »
IMAGE - Towards new horizons
This digital capture (up to 12K when using the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro) finalized in 4K reaches us in a very beautiful transfer UHD HDR10. And despite a slightly fair bitrate (an average of only 42 Mbps), compression is never visible.
Completely grainless or almost (a tiny ciné texture operates), this image where the CGIs* pass admirably well displays a precision of all the moments (the vast expanses where Mother Nature has taken over her rights over the remains of human civilization) thanks to frankly intriguing details (cf. the facial expressions of the primates) and to a definition now at all costs a high level of sharpness (furs, forest environments). Whether it's in close-up plans or in large plans, the depth is at hand.
* Created by more than 1000 artists in studios FX (Avatar, King Kong of 2005, Alita, etc.), sometimes composed from motion capture, for a very bluffing result of realism (knowing that there are only 38 plans not having been used) whose tasks have been optimized by AI. Like, she can be an ally when well exploited!
The natural colorimetric palette, consisting of two distinct predominances (greens and browns in the first two parts, blues and greys in the last act), feeds on the WCG to promote the abundance of greenery, the fergue (canalize) of the primary (blue sky, red banners) and the health of the carnation (warmer hair).
As for HDR technology, in addition to adding brightness to light sources (electric sticks, daylight, flamed torches) and readability to darkness (more discernable shadows), it better crushes high luminance (clouds, foam). Contrast management is in fact much better, with blacks at increased depth and whites with immaculate purity. MaxCLL was measured at 834 nits and Peak Nits at 281 cd/m2.
What a Wonderful Day!
Perfectly balanced and swept away by the incessant noises of nature (the fauna and flora), the VO Dolby Atmos (24-bit, 4709 kbps) uses all the channels at its disposal to embark on this journey enlivened in unknown lands.
The dynamics are strong (the attack on the village of the eagle clan, the manhunt), effects such as ambience abound in the acoustic space of a perennial rear façade (the breath of the wind, the more or less violent flow of the streams) and an animated verticality (rapaces, the rustling of the leaves, the falls of rocks), the elegiac score of John Paesano is quite spacious (damage while sadly forgetable even though it is a tribute to the orchestral score of the inevitable) Jerry Goldsmith), the dialogues are delivered with great clarity and the LFE channel, explosive during the action scenes, triggers its physical support with what it takes to bite (the waves scorching on the shore, the shot, the raging waters infiltrating into the bunker).
Less airy and more flat in its rendering, the VF Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 (1024 kbps) nevertheless comes out with honors. The dubbing, rather qualitative, does not interfere with the original mixing.
CONCLUSION - Malin like a monkey?
Tenth iteration of the famous and prolific saga post-« ape »calyptics, New Kingdom to the ever more advanced photorealism shapes on the ruins of an era that has passed a dystopia where knowledge, partly astray, still leads. And while it will influence the course of history, a new confrontation (by defiance of slavery and death) seems inevitable... A wild and philosopher-like odyssey that the 4K Ultra HD (a/V performances to which it is useless to learn to make grimaces) caresses in the direction of the hair!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
