WORK – The regime of horror

The story of Billy Halleck, a cowardly lawyer who succeeds... until the day when, by accident, he strikes an old gypsy with his car, killing her instantly! Halleck is the winner of the rigged trial that follows. The gypsies then decide to do their own justice and a spell is thrown on Halleck that begins to lose weight uncontrolledly, leading him to a certain death...

True to Stephen King's eponymous novel (except for a less gloomy outcome, the atmosphere is there), this adaptation supported by its author (which also makes it a stealthy appearance) is a moral tale with ubiquitous black humour where the metaphor (a man eaten from the inside by his sins) is mortally delicious. Between laughter and shivering, this very honest B-series fantastic carried by actors who stick to the characters delivers an effective suspense story.

IMAGE – Beware of kilos!

While this is the presence of a bit of tingling in some of the darkest corners of the frame, this HD transfer of great clarity retains the silver texture of the 35 mm capture and benefits from advanced details (make-up), a well saturated colorimetric palette and homogenous contrasts to deep black and white nuanced.

SON – When appetite goes, everything goes ♫

Despite a modest sound design, the multichannel VO encoded in DTS-HD MA is endowed with an unexpected dynamic (the dream at the fair), efficient spatialisation (environmental atmospheres occupy the space well) and perfectly audible dialogues.

Generously proposed in DTS-HD MA 5.1, the VFQ which is less open than its consoeur (the effects breathe less) is dubbing « grotesque » which accentuates too much the yet controlled puffing of the work. In both cases, note that the bass are thinner and stay wisely in their corner.

CONCLUSION – Can we skip a meal?

Even if not greedy (no bonuses on the record), this Blu-ray edition makes us taste a good dish well presented (digipack box 3 shutters with sheath) accompanied by a very informative booklet of 24 pages. And seasoning (delectable A/V services) increases the flavour of the product without indigestion spoiling the proposal!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
