A hilarious farce with offbeat humour and tastyly ridiculous characters, this totally delusional pastiche of the science-fictional genre attacks on Star Wars (but also Star Trek, Alien, The Planet of Monkeys and The Wizard of Oz) and the film industry (including merchandising) through a humble humour that never taps side by side. There is no need to say, Mel Brooks still remains today the master (Jedi) of the intelligent parody!
IMAGE – Everyone's beautiful, are you sure?
Despite small dirt, a touch of sweetness (due to the original capture) and a sometimes invasive grain (in a handful of planes in the desert), this UHD Dolby Vision transfer from a brand new 4K scan from the original negative is a real treat.
Enjoying careful digital cleaning and a high dynamic range, the image of this film has never been so beautiful. The silver texture (35 mm) is generally finer and organic, the details are more visible than in the past (from the beginning, the shell of Spaceball One gives the tone), the colors have a depth and new nuances (the carnation, the metallic dressing of Dot Matrix), the contrasts are as fortified (brighter whites and denser blacks) and the light sources are brighter than ever (the shine of the stars, the reflections on the helmet of the dark Black Helmet, the radiation of the laser rings). Fans will be happy!
SON – He who has ears to hear, hear!
« Natural » The soundtrack 5.1 with the beautiful frontal opening, the solid bass (see the rumbling of the motors) and the score that does not lack punch (which also fills the sound space well) is quite fantastic in its kind.
CONCLUSION – Every good thing has an end...
Fucking joke if it's, The History of Space is rewarded with a 4K Ultra HD edition worthy of its legacy. « We're the Spaceballs! Watch out! »
