WORK – The Super Pat

Krypto, Superman's super-dog, is facing an immense challenge: to save his master, kidnapped by Lex Luthor and his evil pig from Lulu. For this, he will have to team up with a bunch of animals with a big heart but rather clumsy.

Super funny and intended for all ages, this DC animated film with highly characterized characters fights its kryptonite (too many good feelings) using meta sharp jokes, pleasant references (the Silver Age of comics, the Superman of Richard Donner... and of horrendous heroic action scenes. Slightly staggered, this real good surprise is under the leg.

IMAGE – Pets « Hair »

So much more nuanced than its counterpart 1080p, this UHD HDR10 transfer, however from a DI 2K, offers a highly attractive image that will put stars in the eyes of the little ones... But also big children.

Compression no longer has to suffer from colour banding, fine details take advantage of refined edges (animated characters, backgrounds), the wide range of colors brings out a better saturation of the shades (cf. the vibrance of the primaries), the wide range of contrasts helps to consolidate the few nocturnal sequences (explosive confrontation with Whiskers exploits better designed shadows) and the light sources, joyfully expressive (gold reflections on Metropolis buildings), are illustrated by an increased shine (the whiteness of the clouds).

SON – Give me the leg!

Quite measured (dynamics and basses are fairly contained) but perfectly balanced (dialogues mix well with multichannel activity), the VO Dolby Atmos offers a careful listening experience with effects/ambiences well placed in the sound scene.

The frontal separation is notable, the surround channels are assiduously solicited, the music is enveloping, the voices are particularly intelligible and the verticality of the mixing exploited efficiently (especially the many super-animal overflights during the final battle).

Less extensive and more limited in background noise, however, the VF(Q) remains immersive and rather satisfactory in its dubbing... Even though the comedian Muriel Robin of the Parisian version (not present on this record) composes Lulu, India's evil pig, with much more madness (and thus success). To enjoy it, head for the French Blu-ray.

CONCLUSION – Like animals?

As fun as intrepid, this family adventure on hero theme teamed up with a 4K Ultra HD steel with excellent A/V performance. Dog devaaant!

Krypto and the Super Animals

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
