WORK – The « red » Kits
Russia, 2017. Mathieu Roussel was arrested and imprisoned in front of his daughter. French expatriate, he is victim of a « kompromat »falsifying documents used by Russian intelligence services to harm an enemy of the state. Threatened by a long prison sentence, he has only one option left: to escape and join France by his own means...
If the clichés on the « terrible » Russians and the implausibility (the roadblock) did not escape, this thriller haling (very freely inspired by the story of Yoann Barbereau) who does not release the pressure can rely on his controlled scenario, his surgical staging (the subtlety of the frameworks of the Jérôme Salle is to be welcomed), its anxiety climate and its convincing distribution (Gilles Lellouche and Joanna Kulig to take us as close as possible to this hunted man.
IMAGE – Great cold
Apart from some compression problems (the traces of colour banding here and a slight rise of digital noise), this picture 1080p voluntarily austere (the photograph of Matias Boucard It is not there to laugh) delivers a higher definition (cf. the sharpness of the vast forests), a pique of remarkable precision (the close-ups on the faces, the furnished interior at Mathieu Roussel, the corridors of the prison), glacial colors (with few exceptions) naturally saturated, and solid contrasts like a rock with deep blacks (the night scenes are superb) and pure white (the snow).
SON – O Russia 🎶
More atmospheric than inside, this multichannel soundtrack (a track 2.0 is also available on the disc) sufficiently broad and carefully spatialized diffuses beautiful atmospheres at the front (maintaining the clarity of the dialogues) as at the back (where they are discreet but omnipresent) while letting themselves be carried by the music to the « suspense » of the Guillaume Roussel.
CONCLUSION – Uncompromising
As he fights for his freedom and to prove his innocence, this French expatriate victim of a conspiracy will find the strength to fight with this Blu-ray, whose A/V performances do not yield to the « know-how » a state that has become totalitarian!
