WORK – The armed hearts of Korea
Following a shooting in the Common Security Zone separating the two Koreas, two North Korean soldiers were found dead. So that the situation does not degenerate, a young Swiss investigator is responsible for conducting the hearings of the soldiers who were on duty...
While reunification between the two Koreas seems more than ever inaccessible, this human tragedy with an extremely tense political background and truly poignant dramaturgy exalts friendship between peoples, not without neglecting the deeply conflicting nature of the human being.
The drawer script is conducted roundly, the staging with sophisticated frames is rigorous, the performance work is in all points remarkable (the future stars Song Kang-ho and Lee Byung-hun), characters are subtly written and suspense « police officer » Don't miss it.
At the crossroads of humanist drama and geopolitical thriller, Joint Security Area (JSA) is a South Korean cinema classic (the first major work of the filmmaker Park Chan-wook) whose dreadful effectiveness continues.
IMAGE – Beyond the North and South
Resulting from a 4K scan of the Super 35 mm made in 2018, this SDR UHD transfer has only improved compression (even if there is still a solarisation handle) and a slight gain in sharpness to be put on the previous Blu-ray released in 2020. For the rest, it's the same...
The atone photograph is always as well restored thanks to carefully calibrated colours and solid contrasts. The definition is exemplary, the silver texture respected and the defects of the film rather rare (some white dots).
SON – Peace rather than Truth
While it is preferable to opt for the VO in order to be better soaked in the game of actors, the dubbing of the VF remains of quality and fits perfectly into the mixing.
In either case, we are in the presence of a well-distributed soundtrack (cf. the atmospheres of nature) where dialogues of great clarity, a sharp rear scene (rain, shooting), a musical accompaniment of a beautiful finesse and actual basses, especially during the shooting at the Non-return deck, even if little mobilized.
CONCLUSION – My dear neighbours
Since friendship should have no borders, « brothers » and « comrades » to break the military order. The result is a diplomatic incident and then broken destinies, which the present pacifist work denounces with a little more daplomb in 4K Ultra HD!
