WORK – If screw pacem, para bellum
John Wick transgressed a fundamental rule: he killed inside the Continental Hotel. "Excommunicated", all services related to the Continental are closed to him and his head is priced. John finds himself unsupported, hunted by all the most dangerous killers in the world.
Still as jubilatory, this action film, which has never stopped re-drawing the codes of the genre, is nothing less than a manhunt of more than two hours (saturation is sometimes not far away), which links the pieces of Danesque bravery staged with what it takes imagination and class. The problem in this tower of great eight rich in strong sensations is that the (deprecated) scenario is more than a complete pretext to follow immortal John Wick in turn dezing the entire planet (or almost). From a dramatic point of view, that is, to say that the first two opus had more to offer.
IMAGE – Crepitation Under Neon
A prodigious UHD Dolby Vision transfer where enhanced resolution and addition of WCG/HDR technologies enable photography « neon stylised » of the work of shining with a thousand fires.
The levels of detail are beautifully enhanced (clothes, decors), the colors are beautifully reinforced (especially blues, reds and oranges), the contrasts have been carefully adjusted (the shadows benefit from better visibility) and the light sources are extraordinarily boosted (see the reflections in the wet streets).
SON – Guns, Lots of Guns
Full of energy, the VO Dolby Atmos has an extremely wide dynamic range and delivers a disproportionate spatialization (the urban environment is ultra-living and armed altercations use thunderous pyrotechnic effects that « Walk » One speaker to the other), a fairly transcribed score, muscular bass and always clear dialogues.
More rough and with somewhat weak voices, the VF is still messy.
CONCLUSION – Right in the mile?
It's not with this third part that Baba Yaga in suit will retire, on the contrary even... And since the ever-changing batons are as bright as they are painful (broken limbs and large caliber deflagrations) for the poor sbores crossing John Wick's road, only the present 4K Ultra HD (which has its entrances to the Continental) is up to the challenge!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
