Halloween 2 (1981), the nightmare is just beginning...

IMAGE – Darkness reigns!

Approved by the chief of Ops Dean Cundey and carried out in 2021, this 4K restoration from a scan of the original negative is in line with that of his predecessor. Stylistically « identical » or almost (photography is a warmer hair), since it is after all the second half of the initial story, the image finds a weight ally in this UHD transfer encoded in Dolby Vision which marks a notable improvement vis-à-vis the old Blu-ray (softer and globally fads).

Dive in a near-continuous darkness, it manages to refine the silver grain (preserved with care), to make sharpness to the details (cf. the wear of Myers' mask and the texture of the decorations), to add precision to the colors (the carnation, the gyrophhars of the Police, the blood), to offer richness to the contrasts (the blacks are now deep with a good demarcation of the shadows) and to spread light sources that are otherwise brighter (the city lights, the flames and ceiling lights of the hospital).

SON – What is the risk in the hospital?

Rhythmed at the front by an armed score of synths (signed John Carpenter and Alan Howarth) but little explosive on the side of the basses, this soundtrack Dolby Atmos willingly atmospheric is illustrated by some effects in good shape (the car accident) and above all, gives rise to a whole bunch of atmospheres (like the rest of the neighborhood) some of which sound in the heights (the fauna, echoes in the corridors).

CONCLUSION – Indestructible the croque-mitaine?

Because some nightmares never die, it's clearly in Ultra HD Blu-ray (an excellent 4K transfer associated with a new Atmos mix that we didn't expect) that Michael Myers' incessant stalker has to be followed!
