About ten minutes after launching Going Medieval, I did what any healthy person should do in this situation. I put down my helmet, went out to air, then contacted my employer and my relatives. « I'm leaving for a few days, don't worry. I'm fine. ». Then I put my helmet back on.

A taste of coming back Z-order

I must say I should have known what to do with it. The game assumes to be in the line of Banished and even more Rimworld, colony simulation released by Ludeon studio in 2013. For who has already tasted the joys of getting lost in the temporal abyss that these productions offer, you must know what I'm talking about.

It's addictive, terribly addictive and that's what's good. If Going Medieval does not reinvent the genre (three survivors rebuild a colony after the plague ravaged the British Islands) it is by applying its gameplay to a medieval world mastered and to a successful aesthetic that it manages to please. Where Rimworld could throw away some of them by its austere environment, the universe all in 3D and voxel as well as the inhabitants in low-poly gives Going Medieval a small soul supplement.

Frame Passion

So we have to live and survive our survivors. Food management, production, construction of the first buildings and defences. From the beginning you will tell me, but again, the studio Foxy Voxel manages to have fun at the first strokes of axes. The interface, strongly inspired by Rimworld, is effective without being heavy and it will only take a few minutes to tame everyday gestures.

The game starts at the heart of a soft spring and, quickly, the arrival of summer allows us to see what characterizes the main attraction of the game. The high heat to come will damage the food and it will be imperative to build a cellar a few meters underground to preserve it. The contribution of the 3D will also allow to dig or climb to several floors of height. A staircase here, a beam to support my floor there, is really the strong point of Going Medieval. Depending on whether you feel dizzy or prefer to bury yourself in a cave, the title simply allows your imagination to flow.

The hard life of a chestnut...

After Animal Crossing that managed to make us take air in our sanitary torpor, Going Medieval allows here to build a sumptuous area of 350m2 with garden views. If like me you've lived the last few months confined to an apartment that is necessarily too small for the time spent in it, go!

Soundtrack

The roadmap tells us that the developers have planned to add tracks to the ten, some of which already rhythm the game sessions. A lot of flute and violin for a journey through time that helps to immersion. And a big crush on Humble Beginnings !

Love your neighbor

So of course, since there's never a way to be a pain too long, we quickly made a raid by the neighbors of the hill next door. Regularly a fugitive from a nearby area will join you and you will have to defend yourself. On this aspect, as on some others, we feel that we are still on a early access and you may have to try Survival mode for more difficulty if you are interested in this side of the game.

A value of kilometers on the videoludic highway, j I bleed about everything that moves, everything that clicks, everything that plays. Passionate about late by inde-games, I try to sleep on digital paper the few words that come to me to describe these cultural works too long set aside.
