Inexorable. Latin inexorabilis, « which one cannot bow by prayers, from which one cannot escape, implacable ». A title all found for this new home invasion psychological, where the fall seems inevitable. After the success of his first novel – of the same name as the film – Marcel never managed to return to success. While moving in with his wife and daughter in this splendid mansion, the writer is caught up in the vertigo of his former success which haunts him and the blind confidence borne by his wife and publisher who grows in his talent. Thriller in camera where both class and desire relationships clash and deconstruct, Inexorable premiered at the Etrange Festival and the FEFFS. We had the pleasure of talking with his director, Fabrice du Welz, about his inspirations and artistic approach.
The flowers of evil
Marcel is neither a successful nor an accomplished artist. Since bestsellerHe enjoys the unwavering support of his wife, without whom nothing has been possible. Their move into this mansion, which belonged to his father-in-law, is also the legacy of other guardians of social success. In the middle of this bourgeois earth arose Gloria (Anna Gaia Bellugi), young girl, who, like the Greek goddess Eris will throw away the apple of Discord until he shakes the very foundations of the family, simmering ever further in the artist's intimacy.
If the same structureInexorable is classic in form, Fabrice Du Welz manages to reveal the full depth of the unhealthy duo formed by Anna Gaïa Bellugi and Benoît Poelvoorde, precipitated this time in an unusual and dramatic role for this more customary actor of humorous situations. The latter embodies with panache the tortured artist with a darken inspiration for a role that is finally tailored. As her desire grows for Anna Gaïa Bellugi, each plan is the opportunity for a look or a new space of bold intimacy in front of the housewife (Mélanie Doutey) who, powerless, cannot at any time consider the unthinkable.
« We recognize the passion for the forbidden that she throws on pleasure. »
Marcel Jouhandeau
The distance between the characters by the vow is reduced and the desire coupled with the prohibition becomes fatal. Each word is double-edged, each scene is the occasion of an inevitable sexual tension. Gloria is very young and Marcel, married, father established socially but tired by years. Can we really talk about rivalry between Gloria and Jeanne while everything separates them? What is the price of transgression? Inexorable is a gallant and effective thriller where situations and characters sneeze in front of fatality. Fabrice Du Welz goes back to his report to the actors and the staging. Release scheduled for January 2020 in France. A film not to be missed this winter!
