WORK - It's Christmas Time

Armed with all the weapons available to them, Expendables are the last line of defence in the world and the team that is called when all other options are no longer possible. Mercenary Barney Ross and his new team face a gun dealer and his private army. New members, new styles, new tactics.

Out of breath and at Pétauchnock of the uncomplexed meeting of the big arms of the 80s-90s that she was, the franchise Expendable painfully resumes the weapons under the leadership of Scott Waugh. Famelic intrigue is phoned, replicas no longer fly (regressive valves that fall flat), Sylvester Stallone figurative, martial artists that are Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais are terribly underexploited, the action shoots to white (flat, illegible and mounted at the trowel), the visuals are worthy of a prod The Asylum and the feminization of the team is completely missed. But Jason Statham, naturally designated as the heir of the saga (this opus being at the base a spin-off), gives his person to avoid the sinking.

- Vogue, little boat!

From a digital capture finalized in 4K, this very attractive UHD transfer that seems magnified by Dolby Vision technology (without Blu-ray, difficult to compare) is only happiness for the retina... Apart from the fact that green funds and CGIs (airplanes, helicopters and some landscapes) are unfortunate.

The definition spelled out by its sharpness, the level of detail deployed is absolute (furnished faces, different outfits, decorations), the colorimetric palette with richly saturated hues is robust, the contrasts are striking (blacks are abyssal and vibrant whites), the luminous radiation which is of great intensity (reflections on Barney Ross's motorcycle, explosions, exchanges of fire, headlights of motor vehicles, neons) very frequently grabs the 1000 nits (for an average maximum value of just over 700 cd/m2) and the compression is titanium (an average flow exceeding 85 Mb/s).

Expendable

SON - Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom !!

Music to the full the watts, pyrotechnic effects do you want, back scene in continuous movement, engaging verticality (flying gear, debris, lost balls), impavid dynamic and overabundance of bass (which come to support all the action scenes), are the testosterone components of this band-sound Dolby Atmos remarkably immersive (where the dialogues are clearly rendered) even if it is necessary to push the volume of a few decibels to take full ears.

Even more powerful and equally grundant, the VF with well-integrated dubbing is just a little less accurate (mixing on 7 channels forces) than its 3D consoeur.

CONCLUSION - Soft in the trigger

Sad twilight of a license that had yet begun as the fantasy of all movie lovers burné made in 80s/90s, insipid Expendable It's just a scam that doesn't respect its fanbase. But if you come to accept this (last) mission, be aware that The A/V features of 4K Ultra HD are bigrement testosterone!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
