WORK – The Multiverse of Love
Evelyn Wang is out of her mind: she no longer understands her family, her work, and goes under taxes... Suddenly, she finds herself immersed in the multiverse, parallel worlds where she explores all the lives she could have led. In the face of dark forces, she alone can save the world but also preserve the most precious thing: her family.
At the crossroads of genres (social chronicle, existential science fiction at the Wachowski, family drama, kung fu at the Bruce Lee, mute, absurd comedy at the Monty Python, Japanese animation and romance at the Wong Kar-wai) and possibles (finds and other bizarrenesses that unfold without limits give the vertigo), this true declaration of love at the 7th art is a gourmet B_agel series influenced by actors in very great shape (the role of consecration for Michelle Yeoh) where pure organized chaos serves a cosmic delirium with sensations that leads, once released from the drum of the washing machine, to pure emotion!
IMAGE – Everything everywhere and never too much!
Resulting from a digital capture (2.8K and 3.4K) supervised in 4K during the creation of the DI, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer reproduces with great finesse the variations of styles (to differentiate the universes) and the multiple formats (2.39, 2.00, 1.85 and 1.33) that cleverly accompany the narrative.
The definition hardly weakens, the piqué is regularly sliced (details on the faces, costumes and decors are firmer than in HD), the falsely silveric texture (added in post-prod) that goes back and forth according to the unfolding of events is palpable, the calibration of the colors (more or less marked) gains in subtlety (cf. the improvement of the carnation and saturation of the primary), the contrasts enjoy a better balance (blacks are enriched and whites, especially in the room where Jobu Tupaki's favorite weapon is stored, a little brighter) and the light sources, rather measured (the candles in the couple's apartment with sausage fingers), are displayed with a significant addition of nuances (the tax department ceilings, daylight).
SON – Sucked Into a Bagel
Less ambitious than the visual approach, the soundtrack Dolby Atmos (in VO as in VF) remains no less spectacular.
Doughly distributed (without it too much soliciting the surrounds out of the confrontations) and powerful (when the action invites itself to the party), it perfectly detachs the dialogues (which remain at the center of the scene) and uses with correct verticality (in the many passages between the universes). The music, mainly focused on the front, is eloquent and the bass, deliberately unexploited, come out with great strength (make sure to fix your decoration before the projection) during some key passages.
CONCLUSION – What if...?
Cleanly greying and overflowing with cinephilia, this barnum punctuating where tears and laughter come together invites us to explore a multiverse « burst » which fully debunks in 4K Ultra HD!
