WORK – The return of the « Old lady »

After escaping from an Estonian psychiatric institution, Leena Klammer travels to America by pretending to be Esther, the missing daughter of a rich family. But when her mask starts to fall, she finds herself facing a mother who wants to protect her family at all costs from « Children » Killer...

If he gently shakes the expectations of the spectator during a plot twist that avoids him from playing it remake, this opportunistic prequelist where evil took a blow of old (Isabelle Fuhrman no longer 12 years old but 25 years old and makeup like the silhouette lining cannot change anything there) is handicapped by the lack of know-how his director (William Brent Bell is not Jaume Collet-Serra) and a shamefully ridiculous final act. Not catastrophic in itself, this reversal is clearly dispensable.

IMAGE – Beating yourself

Daated, fuzzy, greyish and hazy, the photograph of the chef Ops Karim Hussain evokes a certain cinema of the 70s and is in no way flattering, on the contrary. But for those who are equipped with the appropriate material, the UHD HDR10 transfer better negotiates the aesthetic biases of the work... that sting their eyes (yes, it's ugly!) even if they participate in the discomfort.

The piqué that never impresses (the contours are very little marked) is a little enhanced, the globally faded chromatic palette is a hair more « alive » (blood, photoluminescent paint), attenuated contrasts allow a barely more penetrating depth (blacks are still as porous) and light sources, mostly felt and vaporous out of black light, spread with just more light.

SON – She has maniac ♪

Little on the atmospheres but allowing to go to some striking effects (which the LFE channel reinforces), these relatively immersive and dynamic DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtracks could have had more fun. For even if they are clear (dialogues) and precise (spaceisation), they lack insanity.

More homogeneous, the VO is to be preferred for the interpretation of the terrifying Isabelle Fuhrman.

CONCLUSION – It's bad to get old!

If it cannot visually become old, at least scripturally speaking, the false Esther must undergo a « Second old age » useless that the present 4K Ultra HD, defiled by an aesthetic anything but first freshness, cannot pump!

Esther 2: Origins

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
