WORK – The judgment is near

In the tentacular metropolis ravaged by Vice Mega City One, two judges, an urban police force that combines the functions of cop, judge and executioner, are trapped in the Peach Trees Tower, a complex run by a drug baron...

More realistic and less fanciful than the Cartoonesque version of 1995 with Stallone, this new adaptation of the comic book eponymous which is not without reference The Raid (the screenplay idea is the same) is a futuristic actioner in near camera that makes no concessions. The staging is impressive with images that recall the vignettes of a comic strip during the amazing slow-motion sequences, the rhythm is stunning, the explosive action scenes are unheard of violence and the character of Dredd is (finally) as cold as it is merciless. An absolutely enjoyable killing!

IMAGE – The ruins of the old world

A UHD HDR10 transfer to the prodigious definition, sensational nick (multiple details of it reveal even that it is oversampling), ultra-stylish colorimetric palette, stunning contrasts (black ink and pure whites) and unsanitary (a peaty grain) much more controlled than on the US Blu-ray. On this last point, moreover, the gap is smaller vis-à-vis the previous FR disc, more meticulous when it is published than its overseas counterpart.

Unlike the CSD versions, the colours are more saturated (orange, yellow and red) and yet more nuanced, the shines/reflections much more marked (when taking Slo-Mo drugs), the brighter lights and the dark scenes significantly improved.

SON – I am the law

Dynamic, wide and rich in pyrotechnic effects, the VO Dolby Atmos is a XXL soundtrack that exploits all its channels frantically. Incredibly wide and constantly immersive (front-right-left-height all and all the time!), she stopped overwhelming the listening room, not without the reinforcement of thundering bass, during the action scenes. The precision of spatialization is exceptional, the verticality of mixing is used wonderfully (resonance of the shots, Ma-Ma announcements, closing of the shutters of the building-bunker, etc.) and the percussive score rumbles everywhere. A reference!

Despite less precision and (large) loss of the upper layer, the VF(Q) Dolby Digital 5.1 remains a very spectacular soundtrack.

CONCLUSION – End of negotiations!

Without ever removing his mask and even more intransigent on 4K Ultra HD support, the ultimate judge Dredd undertook to clean up the vertical shantytown of the Ma-Ma gang, an ultra-violent ex-prostitute who became a drug baron, with large bloodbaths. Hang on, the judgment will be without appeal!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
